i was having lots of trouble with my teeth- I had cavities, they were filled, nothing helped…. I was just in lots of pain. Everytime I go to the dentist he tells me there is nothing wrong with me and he can’t figure out what is bothering me. I just went back to him and he told me that there is nothing for him to do for me- he thinks its just stress! does it make sense that my teeth hurt because of personal stress in my life?!?!?! sounds nuts to me!
March 23, 2011 3:40 pm at 3:40 pm #1007117truth be toldMemberIs it worse on rainy days? Do you push your teeth together often?
March 23, 2011 4:24 pm at 4:24 pm #1007118adorableParticipant1. dont think so….never thought about it
2. no
March 23, 2011 4:51 pm at 4:51 pm #1007119mewhoParticipanttry another dentist
also speak with your regular doctor as well
could be something neurological
March 23, 2011 5:39 pm at 5:39 pm #1007120🍫Syag LchochmaParticipantIf it’s top teeth and mostly side teeth, it could be sinus pain. Same facial nerve.
March 23, 2011 8:01 pm at 8:01 pm #1007121mytakeMemberDunno. But I hope you feel better.
March 23, 2011 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #1007122oomisParticipantIf you are under stress right now, you may be grinding your teeth in your sleep – a definite pain inducer. or you may have TMJ, or even referred pain from somewhere else.
March 23, 2011 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #1007123adorableParticipantmytake- Thank you! I just can’t imagine that stress would cause tooth pain and what would he like me to do about it? Just stay at home and not work- so that i dont have work-related stress? Well home is stressful too so not sure where I should go to get rid of this pain! LOL
March 23, 2011 10:58 pm at 10:58 pm #1007124Mother in IsraelMemberI once had awful gum and facial pain and it was my sinuses. It was very hard to differentiate between that and a toothache. I hope you feel better!
March 23, 2011 11:20 pm at 11:20 pm #1007125observanteenMemberI had it too. My dentist told me that some teeth that were filled may “wake up” and it hurts for a while (a couple of weeks or so). There’s really nothing you can do about it. He advised me to take motrin. Also, it MAY be it’s because of stress. I have a habit to grind my teeth when I’m under stress. Perhaps you do the same. If so, try concentrating on your teeth when your under stress (ok I know this sounds pretty goofy, but it does help!)and tell yourself NOT to grind ur teeth!! Oh, of course try getting rid of the stress inducer if that’s possible.
Hope u feel better soon!
March 24, 2011 1:24 am at 1:24 am #1007126HealthParticipantBruxism – Grinding your teeth due to stress. It can be treated with teeth/mouth guards and/or medication. You definitely need a second opinion by someone preferably who deals with bruxism and TMJ disorders.

March 24, 2011 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #1007128adorableParticipantThank you guys! I am going to the doctor to check out if its a sinus infection!
March 24, 2011 3:27 pm at 3:27 pm #1007129ZeesKiteParticipantBluetooth? (Tooth blues)
March 24, 2011 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #1007130adorableParticipantAAAWWWW:( Back to square one…..I just called the dentist to ask him if it can be sinus and he said that I would only have pain on the top not on the bottom teeth. So now what? I am back to square one
March 24, 2011 5:23 pm at 5:23 pm #1007131HealthParticipantCutie – Read my post!
March 24, 2011 7:56 pm at 7:56 pm #1007132adorableParticipantI don’t grind my teeth at night but I do notice that I started grinding my teeth more during the day.
March 24, 2011 8:14 pm at 8:14 pm #1007133Avram in MDParticipantI am a serious bruxer and clench/grind during the night, but am not aware of it. The dentist noticed wear on my bottom teeth. I recently received a mouthguard. Clenching/griding can definitely be a cause of tooth pain.
March 24, 2011 10:10 pm at 10:10 pm #1007134oomisParticipantAre all your wisdom teeth out, btw? Personally I think it sounds like TMJ caused by chewing gum or grinding your teeth.

If a doctor gives you advice you’re not happy with, or simply says “I don’t know” about your problem’s cause, a second opinion from another doctor/dentist is the most obvious course of action I’d take.
Refua shelaima.
March 25, 2011 1:43 am at 1:43 am #1007136yankdownunderMemberadorable- What icot wrote makes sense, get a second opinion from another Dentist.
March 25, 2011 2:57 am at 2:57 am #1007137HealthParticipantAdorable – What happened to cutiepie?
March 25, 2011 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm #1007138adorableParticipanthealth- do you think you know everything? do you think i know everything? i went for a second opinion and they dont see anythign major that can be causing the pain. its not TMJ and its not sinus infection. I am on Naproxin now and using some sort of sandy gel at night on my gums…. thank you for your advice@!
March 25, 2011 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #1007139veteranMemberb’shaah tova?
March 25, 2011 4:53 pm at 4:53 pm #1007141adorableParticipantveteran- what do you mean to be asking me? No baby on the way if that is what you mean
March 25, 2011 5:09 pm at 5:09 pm #1007142AinOhdMilvadoParticipantIF it is NOT that you are grinding your teeth, it may be that for some reason (maybe your diet, the natural acidity of your saliva, etc.) that you have worn away the enamel on your teeth, exposing the dentin, and thus making them very sensitive.
Try getting and brushing with Sensodyne toothpaste which is made for that condition.
Let us know if it helps!
March 27, 2011 4:58 am at 4:58 am #1007143HealthParticipantcutie/adorable -“he thinks its just stress!”
This sounds like bruxism- Buy a nightguard. Or go get a script for a SSRI.
March 28, 2011 9:14 pm at 9:14 pm #1007144adorableParticipantmy dentist put me on Naproxin and told me to brush with sensodyn -which is gross but i tried it anyhow. he also gave me a paste to put on my gums (they looked red to him) and i am using that. The paste is like sandy and was a fortune hope it works!
March 29, 2011 2:28 am at 2:28 am #1007145HealthParticipantadorable -“(they looked red to him)”
What does this mean? Is he diagnosing gingivitis? When is the last time you had a professional cleaning?
March 29, 2011 4:08 pm at 4:08 pm #1007146adorableParticipantI went for a cleaning a few weeks ago when this whole thing started! I saw a gun specialist who told me that my gums are red and I should use this paste at night. Not sure what to do now. I did take his “speech” about stress to heart and I am working on that very hard! trust me its harder than you think!
March 29, 2011 4:17 pm at 4:17 pm #1007147YW Moderator-80Membereven if you are an rabid NRA member i would not recommend following the advice of a gun specialist in matters of health
March 29, 2011 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #1007148adorableParticipantI thought I wrote GUM SPECIALIST! but thank you for the laugh! You are helping out with the situation!
March 29, 2011 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm #1007149HealthParticipantcutie/adorable – This is what happens when you don’t tell the whole history. I wouldn’t have missed the diagnosis if you would have posted this in the git go – “he also gave me a paste to put on my gums (they looked red to him)”! Since you saw a gum specialist (peridontist), I deduce you have either gingivitis or peridontitis. These diseases can cause a lot of Pain. This usually is treated with root & scaling, but they can give you some meds like a paste.
The best prevention of these disorders is good oral hygiene. Brush & Floss 2-3 times a day for at least 2-3 – 5 minutes. You must brush your gums and gumline. Use a proxa brush. Use Listerine twice a day! These suggestions come from a book called “Doctors book of Home Remedies”. You can find more suggestions there. I think they might have a website which contains all the info from the book called -“Mother’s Nature”.
March 29, 2011 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #1007150adorableParticipantThank you Health! you are right that I should be more specific when describing what the story is and tell you the whole story! LOL I am sorry! I do brush my teeth very often and dont eat that much nosh/ candies…. but i do chew gum!
March 29, 2011 6:56 pm at 6:56 pm #1007151tro11MemberI wouldn’t use a Proxa brush if your gingiva are inflamed – it will likely irritate the interdental papilla. Flossing daily and brushing twice daily with a fluoride containing toothpaste are crucial. Proper brushing technique is also really important – you have to make sure to massage your gums – best way is to hold brush horizontally and at a 45 degree tilt at your gum line, such that the brush is contacting both your teeth and your gums.
And minimize snacks to meal times – there is more saliva then, which buffers the acidic effect of cavity causing bacteria.
March 29, 2011 9:39 pm at 9:39 pm #1007152ummMemberOh my, I just stumbled on this thread, I’m having major stress recently, resulting in crazy migraines… and just yesterday I started getting crazy toothaches! I thought it was a cavity or maybe as veteran thought “b’shaa tova”, but now I see it may be related to stress.
I never knew toothaches can come from stress. I think I grind at night from stress because when I’m stressed my tongue gets “withered” which my dentist says is a result from grinding, but actual toothaches I never knew (maybe I should cancel the cleaning appt I just scheduled and take a vacation with that money instead!!)
March 29, 2011 11:34 pm at 11:34 pm #1007153happiestMemberI’ve had such bad tooth pain. I know I have some root canal work that needs to be done but my newest pain I think is sinus related. I’m pretty sure that I have a sinus infection right now but I don’t have a cold- weird!
April 12, 2011 3:32 pm at 3:32 pm #1007154adorableParticipanthad a root canal done yesterday…in pain but i think its normal pain! thank G-d for advil- and lots of it at that!
April 13, 2011 6:40 am at 6:40 am #1007155HealthParticipantYou can take 3-4 Advil every 4-6 hours. This works for teeth pain usually better than narcotics.
April 13, 2011 2:21 pm at 2:21 pm #1007156adorableParticipantI have advil and have been taking that but I also have naproxin that I take at times… I think advil is better though.
April 13, 2011 5:49 pm at 5:49 pm #1007157HealthParticipantThey are both from the same class of drugs. Some work better for some than others. Don’t forget IB (advil, motrin) at 3 or 4 at a time is a prescription dose, while the Naproxen dose you probably are taking is an OTC dose.
April 13, 2011 5:58 pm at 5:58 pm #1007158adorableParticipanti took the naproxin once in 12 hours but the advil i take more often. It did nto work because I think the real issue was that I needed the root canal done but now that i had it done which is stronger? Should i be having a headache from the root canal? is that normal?
April 13, 2011 6:58 pm at 6:58 pm #1007159HealthParticipantI said they are about equal drugs (same class).
You could.
Yes.
April 13, 2011 8:26 pm at 8:26 pm #1007160adorableParticipanthealth- thank you for all your wise advice. my dentist should be thanking you for handling some of my pains so he doesnt have to be around all the time for me! thank you
March 7, 2014 6:50 pm at 6:50 pm #1007161TheGoqParticipantI have to get a root canal how bad is the pain? the dentist says its not so bad nowadays but who knows if he is being truthful.
March 7, 2014 7:21 pm at 7:21 pm #1007162golferParticipantDon’t worry Goq!
It’s really not that terrible most of the time. Depends on what kind of root canal exactly and on your pain tolerance, but you may be surprised to find you won’t have that much pain.
March 10, 2014 3:28 pm at 3:28 pm #1007163TheGoqParticipantThanks for the chizuk golfer! had round 1 of 2 today and it was pretty tame no major pain during cept for when i had to pay the bill har har har, round two in a week but it was really pretty painless.
March 10, 2014 5:11 pm at 5:11 pm #1007164golferParticipantGlad to hear!
