do you ever get the feeling that adults wont listento you or believe you because they can never be wrong? talking about tachers in specific……
March 17, 2011 4:24 am at 4:24 am #751331observanteenMemberMaybe. But I must admit that sometimes, we think we know it all, when we really don’t!
March 17, 2011 4:36 am at 4:36 am #751332mischiefmakerMemberWell, I have to admit that the adults think they know everything when they don’t!!!!!!
March 17, 2011 4:47 am at 4:47 am #751333MindOverChatterParticipantYou’re right that adults don’t necessarily know it all (just because they’re adult doesn’t mean they’re wise). But teens, (the bright as well as the not so bright) are pretty young with little life experience and they’re POSITIVE they know best! Of course the teen can be right and the adult wrong, but pretty often, the opposite is true.
March 17, 2011 6:02 am at 6:02 am #751334cshapiroMemberwait till u get outta school and into the working world…itll only get worse…do u know how many clients call and complain and point fingers at us and tell us we are wrong, we made a mistake and we dont know what we are doing….???!??! we just sit there and laugh at them because they are so arrogant, they dont have a clue what they are talking about BUT THEY think their accountant is made the mistake….99% of the time, its the clients fault, the other 1% comes from us, as we are only human and we make mistakes too.
the one important thing ive learned from working at this firm is not to let anyone intimidate you, cause chances are you know way more than them!!
March 17, 2011 6:23 am at 6:23 am #751335mischiefmakerMemberI’ve had WAY too many experiences with “know it all” adults (mostly teachers) and I don’t trust any of them! They think that cuz they’re older they own the world! Teens can also be right! Everything I say nobody believes cuz “I’m just a teen and they’re the adult”. ADULTS-GROW UP! Just a rant at TEACHERS! Yes, some know what they’re talking about but very few.
March 17, 2011 2:13 pm at 2:13 pm #751336mytakeMemberSorry for sneaking in, I’m not a teen anymore, but I wanted to comment:
I sat through plenty of classes where I felt the teacher was wrong. W-R-O-N-G. So during those lessons, I did sudoku’s and crossword puzzles and wrote poems about the agonies of teenagehood! 🙂
March 17, 2011 4:14 pm at 4:14 pm #751338observanteenMembermytake: lol! Same here!!:)
March 17, 2011 4:42 pm at 4:42 pm #751339mytakeMemberHey, why aren’t you in school, observanteen? You get off?
March 17, 2011 7:43 pm at 7:43 pm #751340Huyde LaHashemMemberi know the feeling of teachers being wrong! i was once accused of something wrongly. i got a ton of screamings for something i didnt do. but then when it was all over, i took a step back and realized they are trying their hardest. everyone makes mistakes. they all have kids and are really nice ppl, but they get overwekmed and make mistakes like us.
March 17, 2011 8:24 pm at 8:24 pm #751341Boro Park GirlMemberAs a teen that’s a teacher, I think teachers try their best to be fair but usually have a reason why they feel the way they do- if they feel they’re right it’s because they are basing it on something.
March 17, 2011 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #751342StuffedCabbageParticipantwell thats not always the truth
March 18, 2011 3:33 pm at 3:33 pm #751343mytakeMemberBP Girl
So is the teen.
March 18, 2011 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #751344popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, it usually happens with teachers who have a low self esteem, and are compensating for it.
March 18, 2011 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #751345shuliParticipantpopa i must agree.
March 20, 2011 6:19 am at 6:19 am #751346aries2756ParticipantI think WE can all agree that WE can always learn from everyone whether they are teen or adult and the only way we can appreciate that is if WE ALL learn to respect each other and be willing to listen to understand. Everyday is an opportunity to learn and you never know “WHO” can be the teacher.
March 21, 2011 4:36 pm at 4:36 pm #751347Raphael KaufmanMemberTo mischiefmaker: Um, we do actually own the world and when you get to be our age, you will too. There is a well known saying to the effect that when one was a teen, he thought his parents and elders weren’t very smart but he was amazed that the older he got, the smarter they became. That comment is well known and somewhat trite because it’s mostly true. No matter how “bright” a teen may be, he or she simply does not have the life experience to form the greatly enhanced neural connections of the adult brain. Of course, adults can be stupid and teens can be wise beyond their years, but that’s not the way to bet.
To mytake: Children do usually “catch up” with their parent’s age but it is not a happy occasion when they do.
March 21, 2011 8:48 pm at 8:48 pm #751348mischiefmakerMemberRK-You THINK you own the world (I don’t know if you’re a teacher or not but that’s what i was referring to) and you THINK everything you say is right and don’t listen to what teens have to say. Teens are right many times. Adults may have more life experience but not everything can be based on experience. Adults may know more but it doesn’t give them the right to disregard a teen’s opinion. Adults have this feeling that they can never be wrong (in my “experiences”)
March 22, 2011 12:11 am at 12:11 am #751349msseekerMemberTeens were never adults but adults were already teens. This should settle it. We know what it means to be a teen, we know how smart, wise and clever we were, and we’re still telling you we’re much wiser and smarter now, warts & all. If you can’t accept it, well… this just goes to show how much you still have to learn from us adults.
March 22, 2011 2:28 am at 2:28 am #751350brotherofursParticipantsome adults did not go through the same things we do nowadays. i know an adult that thinks she’s always right about some things but she DIDN’T go through them! so i think i’m still right about some things because even though she’s the adult, times have changed and i’m NOT the same person she was, and i have tests ad goals in life that are different than her’s.
March 22, 2011 5:21 am at 5:21 am #751351mischiefmakerMembermsseeker-First of all, the world changed. They were teens in the times then with the nisyonos of that time and nowadays nisyonos can be very different! Also, adults tend to forget how they were. ex. A girl right out of seminary teaching knows what its like to be a student and if she can control, can be a great teacher. A 40 year old lady can have control but many times can’t connect with the students like the seminary girl did. Adults simply can’t understand what teenage years right now are like because they went through it so long ago.
March 22, 2011 5:30 am at 5:30 am #751352observanteenMembermischiefmaker: You’re right. But adults are (usually) more mature, and even if they didn’t go through what we do, they can guide us and help us based on their life experience.
March 22, 2011 5:31 am at 5:31 am #751353eclipseMemberNo one knows what tests another person must/has overcome.
You’d be surprised at how many 40 year olds DO REMEMBER and understand.
It all depends on their honesty/humility,…personality traits(outgoing, shy)…and their ability to advise without judging.
March 22, 2011 3:16 pm at 3:16 pm #751354msseekerMemberListen, motek, you were never an adult raising a teen in today’s terrible world. We know how preachy and condenscending we sound to you b/c we were once teens, but you have no idea how arrogant, foolish and downright obnoxious teens sometimes sound to adults. You cannot imagine what it means for a parent to have raised a child, suffering through sleepless nights, temper tantrums, school issues, etc. etc. etc., only to have her turn into a thankless, chutzpadik teen who denigrates the parent in front of the impressionable younger kids, effectively ruining the atmosphere in the home, while raising her friends on pedestals. Same goes for teachers, to a much lesser extent. So just go back to ??? ?? ???? ??? ???, ???? ????, ????, ???? ??? ????? ????, and all the other nice things we adults have taught you, and… (can’t resist this one) someday you’ll thank me.
March 22, 2011 8:04 pm at 8:04 pm #751355eclipseMembermsseeker…I can relate.
March 22, 2011 10:51 pm at 10:51 pm #751356observanteenMemberAwww… msseeker: you made me blush!
March 22, 2011 11:58 pm at 11:58 pm #751357brotherofursParticipantohhh eclipse ur right
March 23, 2011 12:42 am at 12:42 am #751358eclipseMemberbrother…?
March 23, 2011 1:01 am at 1:01 am #751359mischiefmakerMembermsseeker-yes teens can be abnoxious but you can’t call them ALL brats. Not all are chutzpadik… Yes, many can be but not all. I’m not trying to say teens are always right and adults are always wrong. I’m saying adults tend to disregard a teen’s opinion thinking that he’s the adult and a teen doesn’t know anything. It happens many times and no, its not pleasant.
March 23, 2011 1:35 am at 1:35 am #751360MindOverChatterParticipantMischiefmaker: I don’t recall msseeker calling ALL teens “brats”. I think she tried to explain to you that adults are right most of the time. (As a side note, it was interesting to see the teens writing in a blunt and outright manner, while the adults seem to keep their posts short, to the point and don’t get too personal. No offense.)
March 23, 2011 1:55 am at 1:55 am #751361msseekerMemberAnd you’re saying ALL adults tend to disregard a teen’s opinion thinking that he’s the adult and a teen doesn’t know anything? C’mon, grow up. You know very well I didn’t write, imply, or mean ALL teens. In fact I do know some sweet, derech eretzdik, appreciative teens.
Oh, and it’s not pleasant? How pleasant do you think it is to live with teens who won’t admit that adults know a thing or two? Notice I didn’t say ALL of them this time either; I’ve long outgrown my youthful tendency for overgeneralization. Some, like Observanteen, do appreciate our experience and hindsight vision, as the saying goes ??? ??? ???? ??????.
