Prescription meds that must be taken every day MUST be taken every day.

    What aries2756 said is correct.

Additionally, there are numerous other situations where taking medications IS permissible on Shabbas.

Some of them might even surprise you!

Bottom line – you must check with a Rov about each individual case.

    Ask your LOR.

unless taking of mediaction requires you to open a light, i’m sure you are in the clear…but ask just your LOR just in case…

Every Rav will have there own views regarding specific medications.

I was just listening to a shiur, and as a side point the speaker mentioned that R. Y.B. Solevetchick’s view on this topic was that one MUST take prescription medications; one MAY take over the counter medications to relieve a very oppressive condition that makes it difficult to function over shabbos; one MAY NOT take over the counter medications merely to relive discomfort such as an ordinary headache, minor cold, ect.

Again, every Rav has his own specific rulings.

The general halacha is that you are only allowed to take medicine if you are at least ???? ?? ????. IF you are sick enough to lie down, that generally makes the cut.

You are generally allowed to take preventive medicine.

if you are a dog its fine

Why would anyone want to “relive” discomfort? Living through it once is enough.

c’mon, csr1, I think I am pretty good on checking my spelling, grammar, sentence structure, ect. when posting here. Mistakes slip through. I think most readers understood what it should mean. If not, it should have said “relieve.”

But thanks for reading my post so attentively 🙂

I once asked about taking analgesics in hay fever season.

One Rav told me “a bit of sneezing is not ???? ?? ????”I asked another Rav who lived in a ragweed overgrown area & he said “of course YES”

    wellmeaning busybody…

This goes back to a known concept…

While you’re not supposed to shop around for kula’s,

it IS appropriate to talk to a rav who CAN relate to YOUR situation.

L’moshul – the case you mentioned. A rav who never, ever had a problem with allergies, is much more likely to be machmir about taking allergy meds than a rav who has suffered with allergy symptoms.

    Ask your Rov.
