I want to dress up for Purim.
Do you have any ideas?
I am in shidduchim so it has to be tznius and easy to take off.
February 20, 2011 5:29 pm at 5:29 pm #742576cofeefanMemberi am also in shidduchim and im dressing up and i dont care what people think. (not talking tznius wise….) my entire family dresses up with a theme (my parents included) so i think it shows how close a family we are and that family is important to me!
but if you want it to be easy to take off…. how about a doctor? you wear a doctors lab coat, a stethescope (sorry i dont know how to spell that…) etc and this way you just slip off the lab coat and VIOLA you are dressed like always!
or you could be a chef… wear a white short jacket over clothes and an apron and chefs hat… same idea you can just slip it off….
February 20, 2011 5:35 pm at 5:35 pm #742577Sister BearMemberWear those Arab things that only have your eyes showing. No one will know who you are.
February 20, 2011 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #742578canineMemberIf you werent in shidduchim, it wouldnt need to be tznius?

February 20, 2011 6:01 pm at 6:01 pm #742580popa_bar_abbaParticipantYou all know I usually don’t “knee jerk” assur things, but this really does bother me for some reason.
I don’t think it is very tznius to dress up.
February 20, 2011 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #742581pomeranzMemberI dont think girls over 12 should dress up .. Dressing up makes people look at you and that is not tznius
February 20, 2011 6:46 pm at 6:46 pm #742582HealthParticipantpomeranz -IMHO -this depends. If the whole family dresses up like CF’s family, she’ll stick out more not dressing up. If the parents don’t, why should a teenage girl dress up?
February 20, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #742583pascha bchochmaParticipantSister Bear – I’m seriously considering that. SO much for it not being tznius – that’s way more tznius! Where do you get burkas though?
PBA and pomeranz – I’m not wearing it out of the house, this is for family and friends only.
February 20, 2011 7:11 pm at 7:11 pm #742584pomeranzMemberparents? just like a girl shouldnt dress up also the mother shouldnt, do you know how many stories i heard from bouchrim (and nebach married friends)about some ashes ishes how they looked on purim.
February 20, 2011 7:14 pm at 7:14 pm #742585pascha bchochmaParticipantWhat if I dress up as a Meah Shearim lady, would that bother you?
February 20, 2011 7:31 pm at 7:31 pm #742586Sister BearMemberI have no idea, but I always wanted to do that so if you find one, let me know 🙂
pomeranz – just because some people take dressing up too far doesn’t mean it should be banned for everyone.
My friend wants to dress up as Barbie. But she has black hair and does NOT look good in blond. I wonder how shes going to pull that off.
February 20, 2011 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #742587pomeranzMemberpascha ,it doesnt bother me at all what you dress up as , its just when people use the “mitzvah” of dressing up and cause other things
February 20, 2011 7:40 pm at 7:40 pm #742588deiyezoogerMemberdress ups are for “little kids” to get them excited for the purim the spirit, they look foward to it.
big kids and bigger kids can do so much on purim day instead of getting farshtelt. b’ruchnus. the day is so short chap arein.
February 20, 2011 9:19 pm at 9:19 pm #742589ckbshlMemberdeiyezooger- the Shulchan Orach discusses dressing up
not just for kids…
February 20, 2011 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #742590haifagirlParticipantand VIOLA you are dressed like always!
Or you could carry around a VIOLA, and VOILA! you’re a musician.
February 20, 2011 10:14 pm at 10:14 pm #742591ImaofthreeParticipantI like to put on a hat or something subtle on purim…it makes my purim a little happier. and the men are too drunk to notice.
February 20, 2011 10:53 pm at 10:53 pm #742592ummMemberJust dont do what i did, i was in highschool already and dressed up as a yerushalmi boy, the costume was pretty good, a group of boys came in dancing and grabbed me into the circle with them!… WAS BAD!!!
February 20, 2011 11:01 pm at 11:01 pm #742593TumsMemberHow (and how fast) did you extricate yourself from that?
February 20, 2011 11:04 pm at 11:04 pm #742594popa_bar_abbaParticipantummm:
What makes you think it was a mistake?
February 20, 2011 11:12 pm at 11:12 pm #742595wanderingchanaParticipantHow tznius is it for bochurim to be staggering drunk around the streets attracting the attention of everyone?

Haifa girl, you took the words right of my keyboard!!!
February 20, 2011 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #742597shuliParticipanti think its not right for older girls to get dressed up. wear a funny hat with crazy looking sunglasses or something but just dont go over board.i agree with deiy…however you spell it. dressing up is for little kids
February 21, 2011 12:03 am at 12:03 am #742598ImaofthreeParticipantno, it is not right for boys to get very drunk and make a big spectacle of themselves on the street. I feel it is very wrong when I see bochurim and young boys SMOKING, “because it’s purim and we can just let loose and do anything we want”.
But there are many people who do the right thing, I am so impressed by the young boys and fathers who go to learn early Purim morning after megillah (called Yeshivas Mordechai) and for the ladies who prepare beautiful purim seudah and daven with kavanah that day and are moser nefesh to hear megillah when there is so much to do!
February 21, 2011 12:06 am at 12:06 am #742599bygirl93Memberi think its ok to dress up as long as you keep it tznuis and appropriate- there are some people who are always tznuis but when it comes to purim they wear 6inch heels, fish net stockings, a pretty short and tight skirt and a tight top- with the most disgusting make up- enough is enough- you can still dress up and look like a bais yaakov girl!!! boys also have to watch how they dress!!! there is such a thing as tznuis for guys too!!! i mean i saw one guy- in a kilt!!! and then i saw this other guy with a long puple wig etc….. i dont think you want me to continue…. it was DISTURBING to say the least!!! and it was in shul no less!
February 21, 2011 12:07 am at 12:07 am #742600cofeefanMember“and VIOLA you are dressed like always!
