February 18, 2011 4:48 pm at 4:48 pm #742432AinOhdMilvadoParticipant“what the def of high maintenance is?” ….
Someone who requires a LOT of time and money to maintain the level of gashmiyus related aspects of their life that (they think) make them happy.
F’rinstance… Clothing, jewelry, perfume, dining-out, etc., etc., etc…
February 18, 2011 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #742433boredstiffbochurParticipantDo I have money? I’m a reg single guy wanting to know what defines high maint in a reg girl. Who cares if I have money
February 18, 2011 5:04 pm at 5:04 pm #742434hudiParticipantAlways wears a full faces of makeup, hair is always perfect and blown, barely or never seen in a pony-tail. Usually spends at least 1.5 hours in front of the mirror before she leaves the house. Probably does not wear denim. Always fashionable clothing. Very into how she looks to others.
February 18, 2011 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #742435ha ha ha haMemberWell you need $$ for such a type of girl and lots of it at that!!
February 18, 2011 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #742436SacrilegeMemberhudi
That is someone who is in to their appearance, not high maintenance.
February 18, 2011 5:45 pm at 5:45 pm #742437chayav inish livisumayParticipanthigh maintenance means she needs a lot to keep happy. Nothing to do with style or makeup
boredstiffbochur ive learned that people here dont like abbreviations and text lingo. but im glad that now i have another guy that posts like me
February 18, 2011 6:03 pm at 6:03 pm #742438GuardmytongueMemberYou should find out if they meant physically (as in likes alot of ‘stuff’) or emotional. If we define it and that is NOT what they meant it could be disasterous!! High maintenance,as I understand it, is someone who you need to always be ‘maintaining’. It’s emotional. You have to really watch your words, be careful to complement and not say anything with double meaning. Don’t steal their spotlight (oh you had a fever? Well I had the flu) because it puts them down. Their stories are long and you need to be empathizing with everything (beyond the ‘respectful listening’ point) because it is usually about how they either saved the day or were victimized. It’s a tiring life and a lot of energy. But I don’t think someone would have meant that if they were just rattling off a descriptive word. That’s why people need to speak more carefully and you shouldn’t assume my definition is what they meant.
February 18, 2011 6:13 pm at 6:13 pm #742439ZeesKiteParticipantIs this an idea, object or person.
February 18, 2011 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm #742440aries2756ParticipantIt means you better have more than one credit card if you want to keep up with her lifestyle. Oh I meant you better have more than one credit card and be prepared to pay the bills. Yeah, thats what I meant.
February 18, 2011 9:18 pm at 9:18 pm #742441gradaMembergood story grandpa
February 20, 2011 12:14 am at 12:14 am #742442passion4musicMemberHudi-not necessarily.
Its someone who wants and has the ‘finer things in life.’
(Now everyone don’t blow up at me saying “a BMW is not something fine its gashmiyus, ect.)
February 20, 2011 12:21 am at 12:21 am #742443TheGoqParticipanti think it means someone is emotionally fragile and needs constant support
February 20, 2011 12:34 am at 12:34 am #742444passion4musicMemberThe Goq-thats not at all what it means. Its material objects. Designer clothes, expensive cars, nice jewelery, resteraunts….
February 20, 2011 1:00 am at 1:00 am #742445kapustaParticipantSomeone materialistic, who has an appreciation for money because it makes them feel like something. Usually someone who is very insecure.
February 20, 2011 1:23 am at 1:23 am #742446OfcourseMemberSomeone who does most but not neccesarily all the below:
Shops in all the high end stores on Fifth Avenue for clothing, Shops with her decorator in the D&D Building for home decor, as opposed to places where she can get discounted stuff,
Has to take expensive vacations,
Lives in elegant home$,
Competitive with other high maintenance people.
Limits social contact to those in the same socio-economic class.
He/she is, usually, but not at all limited to, those who were born with a silver spoon in their mouths or nouveau riche. Very $tatus conscious. Not neccessarily happy most of the time, because of the constant climb.
February 20, 2011 1:24 am at 1:24 am #742447TheGoqParticipantDefinition 1: Requiring a lot of attention. When describing a person, high-maintenance usually means that the individual is emotionally needy or prone to over-dramatizing a situation to gain attention
definition 2:A person who has expensive taste (re. clothing, restaurants, etc.).
This person is never comfortable because he/she is constantly concerned about his/her appearance.
This person feels they are better than most people and usually judge others based on outward appearances.
February 20, 2011 1:25 am at 1:25 am #742448canineMemberSomeone who dresses non-tznius.
February 20, 2011 1:55 am at 1:55 am #742449kapustaParticipantSomeone who dresses non-tznius.
From my experience, tznius is a separate issue. Its possible to have both, but one doesn’t necessarily mean the other.
February 20, 2011 2:22 am at 2:22 am #742450aries2756ParticipantKapusta, good explanation.
February 20, 2011 2:39 am at 2:39 am #742451cshapiroMemberi agree with kapusta…there are many frummies who are high maintenance…and speaking of which, there are guys who are likewise as well. i personally like to have nice stuff but i would never impose that want for something nice on somebody else.
February 20, 2011 6:10 am at 6:10 am #742452oomisParticipantAnyone who needs to spend a lot of time and money on him or herself (usually it refers to the girls, though), they have expen sive tastes, and are never satisfied. they cabn also be extremely emotionally difficult people to deal with. I would never want as child of mine to marry one.
February 20, 2011 7:58 am at 7:58 am #742453passion4musicMemberMost things are true but not all. I guess everyone has their own opinion of high maintenance.
February 20, 2011 4:21 pm at 4:21 pm #742454ummMemberChayav: “boredstiffbochur ive learned that people here dont like abbreviations and text lingo. but im glad that now i have another guy that posts like me”
“another guy” – Hey, what happened to your insisting that you’re a grandma??? You gotta be consistent if u lie!
February 20, 2011 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #742455600 Kilo BearMemberBS”D
Needs to have the antivirus, spyware remover and disk defragmenter run more than once a day is the definition of high maintenance for me. After a few weeks of that treatment, I try saving all the data and reinstalling the operating system. If that doesn’t work, out she goes, the useless old bag…………..:)))!
