February 10, 2011 9:17 pm at 9:17 pm #739714600 Kilo BearMemberBS”D
A dollar a day. She doesn’t like it? Of course she doesn’t but she gets very scared when I utter the magic segula handed down by Reb Chenek’l Otisviller….”IMMIGRATION”…and it makes her run for her life before she even gets her dollar :))))).
Actually IIRC I paid about $7.50 an hour in Brooklyn and I don’t think it has gone up much.
February 10, 2011 9:26 pm at 9:26 pm #739715smartcookieMember7.50 is way below average.
They take $10 in brooklyn today, and I heard of some that already take more than that 🙁
February 10, 2011 9:30 pm at 9:30 pm #739716chanabMember7.50?! You guys get ’em cheap!! My The going rate where I live is 12 – and that’s for the new ones!!
February 10, 2011 9:36 pm at 9:36 pm #739717cherrybimParticipantIt depends, how is her cholent?
February 10, 2011 9:41 pm at 9:41 pm #739718AinOhdMilvadoParticipant600kilobear…
Does she have any free days available? I’m paying $10/hr!!!
(Or maybe your wife hasn’t told you what she REALLY pays???)
February 10, 2011 9:55 pm at 9:55 pm #739719doodle jumpParticipant$10.00 an hour.
February 10, 2011 10:12 pm at 10:12 pm #739720bptParticipantWell, since I’m married to my “cleaning woman” (and she’s also the mother of my children), what I “pay” is a whole lot more than the going rate.
Then again, I help her, and try to treat her like a person, as opposed to an employee. Come to think of it, I treat her like a partner.
Still, if you’d rather have a stranger poking around your house….
February 10, 2011 10:28 pm at 10:28 pm #739721to really smileMemberbpt – i totally predicted your response!
February 10, 2011 10:42 pm at 10:42 pm #739722anonymrsParticipanti pay 10. a while ago i was looking for a new cleaning lady, so i posted an ad on one of the local lists, and someone responded to me that for that price i was going to get someone not very good, and if i want someone good i need to be willing to pay at least 14.
February 10, 2011 10:44 pm at 10:44 pm #739723geshmocksterMemberBPT: I’m glad, I’m not your wife! LOL!
February 10, 2011 11:07 pm at 11:07 pm #739724bptParticipant“totally predicted your response!”
I was going to say something else, but the Mods would have my head.
“I’m glad, I’m not your wife”
Seeing as she gets a 10 hour headstart on me each day, if she wanted to run, she could be across the globe by the time I got home.
She (like me) stays because its worth staying for. Uh oh, 6:07… gotta run!
February 10, 2011 11:50 pm at 11:50 pm #739725not tellingMemberMy mother pays $10 an hour. I think that’s the usual going rate here.

February 11, 2011 12:32 pm at 12:32 pm #739734ImaofthreeParticipantten dollars an hour…plus five for car service one way. worth every penny!

February 11, 2011 2:47 pm at 2:47 pm #739738always hereParticipantyogibooboo~ wow! impressive! my DH also came home from his shiur @ around 10:30 & so did NOT sweep & mop! I just did this morning (a little); our cleaning help began college & has a full time job so we’re looking for someone new, maybe her roommate. we also have a guy who comes into B’klyn from Newark (started off more as a handyman, now does everything), but he’s veryy undependable.
$10. an hr, plus transportation, & usually a tip.

February 13, 2011 4:19 pm at 4:19 pm #739741charliehallParticipant$90/day; she usually takes 4 to 5 hours. She works for an agency which I think takes a cut.
February 13, 2011 4:33 pm at 4:33 pm #739742shlishiMemberthat’s a lot! how many days a week do you need her?
February 13, 2011 5:04 pm at 5:04 pm #739743popa_bar_abbaParticipantShouldn’t the question read “How much did you pay for your cleaning woman”?
It really is worth the investment to buy one upfront, instead of renting from someone else.
February 13, 2011 5:17 pm at 5:17 pm #739744popa_bar_abbaParticipantPopa! That is not funny. Slavery has existed, even in this country, and exists in many places even today. Your callousness towards their plight does not behoove you.
The concept of eved is in the torah. Don’t understand it? Neither do I. But it’s there.

$7.50 is from memory and I may be wrong – I last hired a cleaning lady in 2007 in the US and I do not know how long she worked. I may have indeed paid her what I remember paying her for fewer hours than I thought she worked.
It is time for Welfarian women to be bonded by the welfare department and forced to work as domestics if they want their benefits. Instead, we are compelled to hire illegal aliens because no American will work as a domestic in the NY area.
