When I was a bochur, I was thrown out of Brisk for numerous infractions. My payos were two short, I refused to denigrate R’ Schach, and I didn’t ibber meiser, and I learned mussar.
So I ended up in the Mir, like all the other oisvarfs.
I was depressed, and wasn’t learning too well.
But then I heard a schmooze from R’ Finkel zt”l about chashivus haTorah, and I was so inspired, that I begged him to get me a good chavrusah, and promised to learn b’hasmadah rabah and become a big talmid chacham.
He found me a really top guy, and for a while was learning very well, and on my way to becoming a gadol b’Torah.
The trouble started when a new guy sat down right behind me.
At first, there were just minor distractions. He was a heavyset guy, and kept on breaking his chair. Eventually, I asked the hanhala to get him a special reinforced chair, and that issue was resolved.
But then he got a new chavrusah. This guy used to bring in these papers (I think from his wife’s work) and they both would sit for an entire seder bateling away and cackling like hens. I was so distracted a whole seder that I eventually left yeshiva and went to law school. Until today, I still feel that I could have been really big.
If I ever get my hands on that guy…

ok guys, try not to bump any of the alteh bochur threads anymore. I didn’t realize he was on the CR and reading them.
sorry about that, DY (aka AR)
November 25, 2014 11:25 pm at 11:25 pm #1060443☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantIt’s okay, I got the last laugh. Never thought I’d get married, did you?

December 12, 2014 2:04 pm at 2:04 pm #1060447☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantEveryone.
December 13, 2014 11:28 pm at 11:28 pm #1060448screwdriverdelightParticipantNobody throws you out in Brisk. You probably were in Ner Yaakov, a yeshiva which used to be right across the street from Brisk.
Yeah, that makes sense. A lot of Mir’s student body are Neir Ya’kov rejects.
December 13, 2014 11:35 pm at 11:35 pm #1060449screwdriverdelightParticipantHow did this thread end up as both decaf coffee and rants?
December 13, 2014 11:55 pm at 11:55 pm #1060450☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantBecause “rants” is a subcategory of decaf coffee.
But Ner Yaakov was not a subcategory of Brisk.
December 15, 2014 12:12 am at 12:12 am #1060451dnetskMemberI find the level of sarcasm sickening to the point of having to barf. Wow, you’re just really so sarcastic and smart. If by some chance you’re being serious, you’re basically saying you have no ability to concentrate, and would rather blame that on the people around you and denigrate others than focus on yourself. Nice going! You win!
December 15, 2014 3:01 pm at 3:01 pm #1060452☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantAlternatively, I’m being neither serious nor sarcastic.

January 30, 2015 1:29 am at 1:29 am #1060458Rema711MemberI got it way worse I was kicked out of day school when I was in second grade cause I beat up a five year old (long story short), even though there was a kid in my class that would beat me up really badly so I would have huge bruise marks on my back, he would also beat up everybody in my class that was a boy, he even tried beating up the Principal’s son, but yet they never kicked him out cause he had three other siblings at the school at the time, every time he beat somebody up he was sent to the Principle office, to get a slap on the wrist, then five minutes later he would beat up another kid, even his friends turn him in to the principal and still got the same treatment, he got away with it for years till his family moved to Israel, he even stabbed a kid in my class with a rusty nail but still nothing…
January 30, 2015 3:33 am at 3:33 am #1060459Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantOy yoy yoy. You have my deepest sympathies, rema711. Btw how many non-boys were in tooter class?

February 2, 2015 8:28 am at 8:28 am #1060469Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantBtw DY: did you last in Brisk through Rosh Hashanah? I always wanted to know what Briskers do with their peyos during Tekias Shofar. Do they put them behind their ears like their tallis, or do they keep then out? (And I thought you only get thrown out if your peyos are too thin, not too short?)
February 2, 2015 1:11 pm at 1:11 pm #1060470Rema711MemberYYBC u always seem to ask the best questions don’t u
February 4, 2015 1:17 pm at 1:17 pm #1060471☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYYBC, I noticed a couple of guys with ponytail holders.
Maybe you’re right. They didn’t actually tell me why they kicked me out; for all I know it might have been the pot smoking.
February 4, 2015 3:59 pm at 3:59 pm #1060473Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantHow many times did you say the word “Shema”? You can get thrown out for being careless about mitzvos.
February 4, 2015 5:21 pm at 5:21 pm #1060475February 4, 2015 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #1060477Yayin Yashan B’Kli ChadashParticipantThanks for the maareh makom. This really belongs there, not here: The yeshiva bochurim had to go to a chasunah in Williamsburg. They called up a car service and asked how much it would cost. The car service said “$35”. In search of a better deal, they called up the pizza store across the street. They ordered a pie for $15, to be delivered to Williamsburg. When the delivery guy was getting into the van, they asked him if he happened to be going near Williamsburg. Amazingly enough, that was exactly where he was going! They got a ride to Williamsburg, paid for the pizza, and walked off.
February 9, 2015 5:20 am at 5:20 am #1060479gildaParticipantExcuses excuses for being an Am Haaretz. The Yetzer Hora is doing a good job on you. It’s time to defeat him and buckle down. The fact that you’re talking about it publicly shows how you’re bothered by it and want chizuk. So keep us posted
February 9, 2015 5:24 am at 5:24 am #1060480☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantUpdate: I’m still an ama’aretz.

February 9, 2015 10:10 pm at 10:10 pm #1060482relatively unprejudicedMemberIf someone who sat behind you in class in law school would have been distracting, would you have left from there as well? And why couldn’t you have just found someplace else to learn?

Resubmit (iawtp)
February 10, 2015 4:05 am at 4:05 am #1060486☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantWhat did I do this time?
February 10, 2015 4:57 am at 4:57 am #1060487good_pointMemberSince when do they have chairs that can break in the Mir? In my time they had strong wooden benches reinforced by metal that NEVER broke
February 20, 2015 1:53 am at 1:53 am #1060488☕ DaasYochid ☕ParticipantYeah, they replaced all of them.
