This one, I gotta do in English.
The only way to really learn the lingo is to hang out with Yiddish speakers. And in today’s market, that means Chassidim. The rest of us speak it, but not enough for you to really pick up all the nuances.
Forget online, forget Rosseta Stone. Wanna speak like a brotha’? Make yourself at home in the sheeble. Give it 6 months to a year, and you’re in.

By the way I started a thread for language learning so that other languages don’t have to be used here (just trying to be considerate)

February 2, 2011 5:00 am at 5:00 am #734981SapphireMemberNo problem! (What I wrote probably didn’t make much sense anyhow, and now I can use words I couldn’t find in Yiddish)
I’m sorry I used the English letters for the Yiddish. In many colleges there are Yiddish courses. I don’t know whether these courses are of proper Yiddish language, perhaps that depends on the (of course, the course,) college and/or professor…but there are many courses available “out there”. I decided to check out a couple of colleges online and saw that each offers Yiddish classes, and different level Yiddish classes at that. (I don’t know about each semester, but where I took Yiddish, one semester the first level of Yiddish was offered, and I think the next semester the next level of Yiddish was offered). I’m sure there are other courses around, out of college. If you try Google, you’ll come up with other options, as well.
I suppose I should include some Yiddish in this, so…Ich meshaer zayn ich zol areyngeyn a bisl Yiddish arayn dos, heyst es…

Someone once came to the Admou”r meCreedmoor and asked if he could teach him Yiddish while he stood on one foot.
The Admou”r said: “Shygetz Aross. Shecht’em oon a brooche!”
Now he is no longer standing on one foot.
