ok-lets try it this way and maybe I can not get “moderated”
Who feels that mid-winter break is not necessary for our children?
I appreciate that they work very hard in school, and I also appreciate the hard work our teachers put into our children. But,they do get off for shabbos half a day, every week, they also get off for every yom tov,and they are off for the summer. There is plenty of time for both children and adults to “recharge”.
Must I pay tuition for the month of Jan. when half the month school iclosed for “recess”? I understand when the chaggim make us close school, but stam to close school for “recess” just like that?!?
And now, there is the additional expense of entertaining the kids while they are out of school for the week…We must go ice skating or to the city, mueseums, bowling, like its chol hamoed all over again! And thats not even good enough, you are looked down upon if you dont hop on a plane to Florida!
What do you all think? Am i crazy that I wish they wouldnt have vacation in Jan??
Dont get me wrong-I love my kids, but I think they belong in school.I also understand that teaching is demanding and the teacjhers need a break,so Im all for giving off a day or 2,but a week?? or even 10 days???

How did YOU feel when you had off? Did you feel you needed it? Did you feel it was too much? Did your teachers feel it was too much? Did your parents complain about paying so much tuition when you were home all the time?
Do our kids really have more time off than we did?

Why can’t your kids entertain themselves? Mine can.
My kids have a week and a half off coming up. We have NO plans to take them anywhere over the break – it’s simply not in our budget — and the kids understand and appreciate this.
Granted, perhaps my kids may be a bit older than yours, but even an elementary school child should be able to understand that parents don’t have limitless amounts of money.

Now is a good time to give them the piano lessons they always wanted, or guitar or tennis, or whatever they never had time for…..
