TLC ! TO LEARN CONTROL. Its a real program started by a Rav & his Rebbetzin. Now being followed by thousands across the world, it was designed for the frum woman.
I am a compulsive eater. I can put things in my mouth when I am not even aware of it, or when I am not even hungry.
However, TLC is a program which is fast gaining a lot of popularity and if you want more info I can give you the hotline number to listen in on (718) area code. You can see if its for you. There are no costs, or fees.
Ladies all around me are dropping the weight. I know personally 2 ladies who both dropped 60 lbs!
I know of a family of sisters who lost tons. And they are keeping it off.
The only drawback is that its really strict. And there is no cheating.

for me it’s always been sensible eating… fruits vegtables, protien and whole grains. a TON of water always helps!!
whatever you do it’s really about self control which is ALWAYS easier said than done (at least for me!!)

January 6, 2011 2:18 pm at 2:18 pm #726770aries2756ParticipantWhatever you do, do a healthy diet and exercise plan. If you go on a fad diet and lose too much too soon you will be losing water and muscle and not fat. Then when you start our normal eating habits again you will gain it all back plus.
So the best thing to do is learn how to eat healthy and change your eating habits to normal healthy eating that you can maintain for life. Eat healthy and exercise and even though you will only lose a pound or two a week, you will be losing “fat” pounds which will stay off, and even if you don’t lose much you will be gaining muscle which will aid in burning fat so you will “SEE” results even if it doesn’t show on the scale. Work with a doctor or nutritionist who will explain to you how many calories you should be taking in and how many you should be burning up. In a addition they will teach you how to read the labels and what to watch out for. Calories and fat grams are not the only things to look out for.

I find that the South Beach diet is what really works for me and is easy to stick to. Basically, no sugar or white flour, plenty of veggies, fruit, lean protein and low fat dairy. Any grains must be whole wheat. The reason I find this easy to stick to is because there is no counting calories or portions for the most part. Of course, common sense must prevail and eating a whole brick of cheese will not help in the weight loss process. But seriously, how much grilled chicken are you going to eat already?
Most days I forget that I am on a diet, because there is no counting. This way of eating has become my lifestyle, and I do it naturally (with the occasional cheat, of course!)

I agree 100% with all the comments saying to eat healthy and sensible- whole grains, no sugar, no white flour, lean protiens,and most of all self control
but, i can eat a whole roast chicken and a loaf of Ezekiel Bread, and a huge salad- but i probably wont lose weight
So Weight Watchers, for me, is all about sensible eating and self control, and making the right choices in eating
Instead of chosing a burger, which is like 8 points, i’ll eat instead some tuna (2 points) whole wheat bread (2 points) 1 TBS of light mayo (1 point)- it gives me a sense of direction in eating which together with self control and a good excersize program, and Hashems help, helped me lose over 50 pounds

The diet that works for us is really quite simple:
1) try to only eat food you make at home. And never skip breakfast!
2) if you must eat store bought food, try to avoid things with more than 5 ingredients
3) avoid hydrogenated anything!
4) portion size: divide your plate as follows: 50% salad, 25% main course, 25% side dish. desert should be the same size as your main course
5) Excercise. No, not the NYC marathon, and not the Ironman triathalon. Walking 2-3 miles (within 30-45 minutes)a day should do the trick for 90% of us
6) Remember, its the only body you have.. take care of it!
Dieting / maintaining your health is not a punishment….its a gift you give yourself.

January 10, 2011 8:02 pm at 8:02 pm #726777bptParticipantSorry, I left # 4 a bit unclear. The 50/25/25 guidline applies to your biggest meal of the day (like lunch or supper) Breakfast can be a single bowl of cereal (hot or cold) with a fruit cut up into the bowl.
And swap the danish for a muffin, when having the coffee, and the muffin should be one you made, not bought.
The 3rd meal (if you can’t keep to the 50/25/25 rule) should be as light as you can get by on, and suppliment it with fruit

It was so hard for her to walk and I felt sorry for her. Lap band is so drastic though…friend of mine had it and it didn’t even work for her!

And probably useless. If they don’t change their eating habits, each time they attend a simcha (which in Willi, is almost daily) they will be miserable.
Excercise, choosing food carefully and portion control gives you the best of both worlds

Sadly, after my great success, I got lazy and went off the program and put much of it back. But that’s not the fault of the program — that was my own laziness — and over the course of the seven years that it took me to put most of the weight back, I certainly could have re-started. The fault here is solely my own.

Breakfast- 250 calories worth of whole wheat bread. Best is Franczoz Jerusalem whole wheat. 4 slices.
Lunch- green salad with fat free dressing.
Snacks- Fruit.
Dinner- Whatever I want.
Evening- Beer, scotch, or rum.
I lost about 45 pounds and have maintained that for a few years now.

This is mainly useful for not gaining back what you lost. Plan the times of your meals and snacks, and don’t Chap things out of the pantry. No nibbling. No pinching food out of serving plates. Even if your meals are large, this keeps a lot in place.

From what I gather of your other posts, you’re in your mid-30s, and have a pretty controlable, predictable scedule. Getting in shape should be a piece of cake (pun intended).
Set your mind to it, and you’ll be in tip-top shape in no time.

Nonetheless, I did actually start to diet again last week — for the first time in about six or seven years. It’ll take me longer than 11-12 weeks to get to “normal” weight — but I know I can do it as I did it in the past.

January 11, 2011 2:34 am at 2:34 am #726793finally the truthMemberwe all know how to lose weight the real question is how to keep it off…. the only way is to do a “diet” thats not a diet but a complete lifestyle change… if ur gunna do southbeach or wtvr, not allowed to eat this and that and white flour and depriving yourself its NOT going to last a lifetime. that means you’ll gain it all back plus more to make up for the deprivation you felt while you dieted. The real answer is choose a healthy balanced plan that is simple (not an abnormal amount of preperateion) or too much of one type of food and none of another… weight watchers is a very good program. but regardless of what the plan is, you need to make a change in your head not your body. because its your mind that is causing you to be fat not your body. change your thinking long term, lifestyle change and youll succeed and not gain it all back like you have done so many times….

Oh, cmon Wolf, it can’t be that absurd? I’m basing my guess on my own day. Anyone who can read / post with any degree of freedom (which we both seem to be able to do) should be able to control the mealtime scedule, and make time for 30-45 minutes of excercise.
Unless you’re in a hospital ward (which I sincerly hope is not the case)
