I just heard a story about a girl who went out with a boy and it didn’t work out….the girls father thought of his friends daughter for this boy. They went out…and they ended up getting engaged! It just goes to show how u gotta think of others while dating!
December 21, 2010 6:16 pm at 6:16 pm #719823aries2756ParticipantIt also shows that you never know who your sheliach is going to be and that there was a reason that these parents had to say “yes” to this shidduch! It wasn’t because he was right for their daughter, it was so they could be the sheliach for their friend’s daughter.
December 21, 2010 6:26 pm at 6:26 pm #719824cleverjewishpunMemberWow you mean there was a shidduch made without someone asking all sorts of stupid and time wasting questions about irrelevant details regarding a distant relative 20 years ago?
I’m reluctant to believe that this story actually happened
December 21, 2010 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #719825always hereParticipantit sounds very plausible to me. Years ago my daughter went out with a boy, but didn’t think it was shiach for her, but then suggested him to her friend’s sister. B’H, both are married w/ children now.
December 21, 2010 7:37 pm at 7:37 pm #719826curlygirlyMemberThe story did happen…I heard it firsthand!!
December 21, 2010 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #719827SJSinNYCMemberThis story happens all the time. Its a nice story, but not a “Wow, that’s amazing” kind of story.
December 21, 2010 8:10 pm at 8:10 pm #719828aries2756ParticipantMy daughter went out with a distant relative. it didn’t work out but his mother thought she would be better suited for his best friend. SHE WAS RIGHT!!!
December 21, 2010 8:16 pm at 8:16 pm #719829Aishes ChayilParticipantI know a case of a boy who went out with a girl, it didnt work out so he suggested her to a friend. They went out, got engaged, had a stunning wedding……..unfortunatley, 3 monthes later, the marriage took a nose dive. They divorced. OUCH!!!!!!

December 21, 2010 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm #719831aries2756ParticipantAC, b”h, that wasn’t OUR story.
December 21, 2010 8:20 pm at 8:20 pm #719832Aishes ChayilParticipantI thought I would combine the two:)))
December 22, 2010 1:37 am at 1:37 am #719833Shticky GuyParticipantMod 80 ‘wrong thread’ ??? Why, dont say you’re starting an ‘amazing divorce stories’ thread? (I suppose k’sheim shemevorchim al hatov kach mevorchim al ho’ra… And i know guys who moved onto zivug sheini and it turned out to be the best that could have happened to them).
Amazing shiduch story: I know of a girl who travelled somewhere off the beaten track and couldnt find her destination. She came across a house with a mezuza so she knocked on. The woman who answered helped her tons and offered her grandson to help with her bags and to take her to her destination. She got talking to him on the short journey… After she got back home she got a phone call from the woman to say her grandson really liked her… etc etc… And although on paper they are utterly different and from completely different backgrounds, they got married! Had she not knocked on that door…
December 22, 2010 3:20 am at 3:20 am #719834GuardmytongueMemberAfter many years of dating I ‘took a break’ from shidduchim to work at a summer job. A month later I ended up engaged to one of the co-workers. He was such a new BT that nobody would ever have considered fixing him up with anyone, but enough time with him proved he was already more connected to Hashem and committed to Yiddeshkiet than most people, myself included. Twenty years later he still amazes me and I have become someone I never would have otherwise. Hashem surely has his ways.
December 22, 2010 4:39 am at 4:39 am #719835HolyMoeParticipantThis is a true story.
My daughter was formally redt a shidduch. The boy came to our home met us and took our daughter out. The boy wanted to continue, my daughter and us did not. But she and my wife thought that a friend’s daughter would be perfect for him. We waited a few days and my wife just picked up the phone and called the boy’s mother (whom she never met) and introduced herself as the mother of xxx. “Having met your son in our home, I know a girl who would be more suitable for your son’s special qualities”. The boy’s mother was shocked, speechless and flabbergasted.
You can guess the end, they are happily married today with five children. My wife was the shadchan. She could’ve had the phone slammed down on her but she took the chance anyway. She succeeded in helping the Ribono Shel Olam build a bayis ne’eman byisroel.
December 22, 2010 5:26 am at 5:26 am #719836cofeefanMemberit’s alaways nice to hear these stories… as a girl in shidduchim it gives me chizuk just stam to hear Hashgachas Hashem how there really is a plan!
December 22, 2010 7:09 am at 7:09 am #719837Aishes ChayilParticipantShticky,
HAD SHE NOT KNOCKED ON THE DOOR…….she would have still come i contact with him some other way. He was obviously her zivug;)))
December 22, 2010 8:05 am at 8:05 am #719838Shticky GuyParticipantGreat stories. For other stories of hashgacha pratis you can also visit the hashgacha pratis thread
December 22, 2010 4:22 pm at 4:22 pm #719839Aishes ChayilParticipantI know a case where a girl was going out with a boy who her parents were against. The girl INSISTED that she wanted to marry him, so the father made a deal with her.
He told her to give it a year. If he is still available in a years time, she could marry him with her father’s blessing. BUT, in that year, she has to go out with any other shidduch that comes up which her parents agree to. She did, and got engaged to another boy!!
December 22, 2010 4:34 pm at 4:34 pm #719840popa_bar_abbaParticipantAishes:
Why is that a nice story? All I see are domineering parents and kid with no spine.
December 22, 2010 5:01 pm at 5:01 pm #719841Aishes ChayilParticipantPopa,
The point was that she indeed liked the boy her parents wanted her to marry, otherwise she wouldnt have. So the parents and the daughter were both pleased. She is happily married until today.
The storyy comes across as you say, domineering. But obviously the results were postive.
Sometimes in life, you gotta go through difficulties to get there….
December 22, 2010 5:06 pm at 5:06 pm #719842popa_bar_abbaParticipantYes, but I don’t see the outcome as positive. It is certainly better than if she would now be a 70 year old spinster mourning the love of her youth, but the parents were still way out of line, and we have no idea whether the first would have made a better spouse for her.
December 22, 2010 5:14 pm at 5:14 pm #719843Aishes ChayilParticipantWell if you believe in bashert, then obviously the one she married was her zivug,
December 22, 2010 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm #719844SJSinNYCMemberI’m with Popa.
December 22, 2010 5:31 pm at 5:31 pm #719845popa_bar_abbaParticipantI’m not sure it works like that. The concept of bashert is very sticky, and I don’t think we can extrapolate like that.
December 22, 2010 5:44 pm at 5:44 pm #719846Aishes ChayilParticipantWell, allow me to simplify this with another story that happened to a close friend of mine.
Her son was ready for a shidduch and they red her something very suitable. The problem was, that the girl’s father had the same name as her son.
They wanted to ask their regular Rav who happend to have been in the hospital at the time and was not avaialble due to an illness. So they asked soemone else who said its ok, but they must ask 2 other Rabbonim (yochid bzerabim, halacha kirabim). The other 2 approved it as well. The shidduch was made.
After their regumar Rav was released from the hospital, they found out that HE is VERY MAKPID NOT TO TAKE THE SAME NAME.
Had he not been ill as the time, they would have asked him and not gone through with the shidduch because he would have opposed it.
One might ask, had they waited for him to be released from the hospital (it wasnt a serious illnes) they might have found something more suitable.
THIS WAS HIS ZIVUG. Hakodosh B’ Hu rules the world!!
December 22, 2010 5:56 pm at 5:56 pm #719847popa_bar_abbaParticipantOk, the second story is better. It sounds like G-d arranged it so she would date him.
But, G-d may have arranged that because He wanted them to suffer through having a bad marriage. Or perhaps to make a nisayon of Kibbud av when they get mixed up.
December 22, 2010 6:17 pm at 6:17 pm #719848bptParticipantOn the topic of great shidduch stories, does anyone know the finale of the “tire-changer” story? That was a CR favorite for a long time.
Any info?
December 22, 2010 6:24 pm at 6:24 pm #719849bptParticipant“She is happily married until today”
Says who? How can you measure happiness vs “settling for what was decided as better for you”
I apprciate things I work hard for, more than things that are just handed to me. Can I make a multi-tier cream cake? Not one that looks professional. Can I make chocolate chip cookies that taste great?
Yes. And I appreciate each and every one of them (the ones I share with others, even more so)

I think she said it didn’t work out.
December 22, 2010 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #719851Feif UnParticipantI know a woman who was redt a shidduch, and got married. The husband was physically abusive, and regularly beat her. They got divorced.
A few years later, she met a widower. They dated for a while, got married, and now have 7 or 8 children. She says if not for her first, horrible marriage, she would not have considered going out with her current husband. She had to go through hell to get to her husband – but she says it was worth it!
December 22, 2010 7:42 pm at 7:42 pm #719852shtusimParticipantSuri & Moshe dated for many years. Finally, Suri says to Moshe, ” Don’t you think it’s time we got married?”
Moshe replied ‘ Who would take two old geezers like us?” 🙂
December 22, 2010 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #719853BP ZaidehMemberA great Bachur was redt to my oldest. We met him and he made a very good impression, and he came up fro a sit in with my daughter.
As he came up the stairs i noticed that he had a hunchback. When he left we asked my daughter for her impression, which was very favorable. But she saw what I and her mother saw. We called the Shadchan who was shocked. “I know him very well. “I know him very well & have no idea what you are talking about.” So he thought some lame excuse for our rejection. So happened I bumped into the young man the next day and his back was as straight as a broomstick. We could not turn the clock back, A few days later Shadchan calls back “I have another great Bachur, I’ll be open with you I don’t want any surprises. Try to see him under cover he has a slight blemish on his face”. So Motzei Shabbos I went to the bachur’s Rebbe’s Tish, managed to track him down and examined him from all angles & saw nothing. We met him my daughter met him an unheard of 4 times and Mazel Tov. A year after their Chasuna he tells his wife that he was born with a cleft lip which required surgery.
December 22, 2010 8:07 pm at 8:07 pm #719854bptParticipantDunno –
Are you talking about the tire changer story or the 1st one that Aishes Chayil posted today?
