I was just interested-
Can anyone share their insights into which sorts of usernames they would assume tend to be male, and which female.
For example, I’m almost positive BEST IMA is a female, unless it is a guy trying really hard to fool everyone. Which gender chooses cornier ones? longer ones? more religious sounding ones?-
Perhaps we can conduct a study.
December 16, 2010 6:44 pm at 6:44 pm #720846blinkyParticipantSometimes you can never tell, i thought shimmel was a male you know just the type and i was wrong! Also Hello Kitty i was positive was a female and he wasn’t! You’ll just have to wonder till they slip up and drop a hint.
P.S.Which one are YOU? I think male but you never know
December 17, 2010 1:04 am at 1:04 am #720847Ma ChovasoMembermale? really? that’s interesting… unless you really think the opposite and are trying to get me to confirm.. oh the mind game possibilities are endless…
It would entertain me though if Poppa bar Abba was female, or shlomozalman…
December 17, 2010 2:01 am at 2:01 am #720848mischiefmakerMemberI’ve said way too many times that I’m a girl. I still can’t figure everyone out and that’s why it wouldn’t be a bad idea to put which gender it is under the username.
December 17, 2010 4:33 am at 4:33 am #720849kapustaParticipantMy theory: (no one said anything about it actually working)
Women take more cheery, friendlier names (like smile, smiley, hello etc)
Men take more “lomdish” names, in Hebrew or Yiddish. And names of foods. (Although that wouldn’t work with kapusta)
December 17, 2010 6:11 am at 6:11 am #720850postsemgirlMemberWell really I’m a boy who went to Brisk!
December 17, 2010 11:31 am at 11:31 am #720851RalphieMemberI grabbed the most religious name in Webster’s. What difference does it make? What’s your point?
December 17, 2010 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #720852Ma ChovasoMemberIt makes a difference cuz I’m interested. And also because I’m planning to fool everyone with my next screenname. DUH!
December 17, 2010 10:43 pm at 10:43 pm #720855mischiefmakerMemberI think we need a thread for everyone to say their gender and about how old they are. Honestly I don’t want a 10-year-old answering my questions. I don’t mean like 28 or 30 I mean like H.S., post H.S. but unmarried, married, parents, grandparents, etc. GET IT?? We’ll see if anyone else agrees. I don’t say certain things because I don’t want a ten-year-old or something to answer as if he were my great-grandfather… What do u guys think?
December 18, 2010 11:05 pm at 11:05 pm #720856eclipseMemberI’m about 100.
December 19, 2010 4:21 am at 4:21 am #720857Midwest2ParticipantThe CR is the CR. You just gotta take chances like everybody else. Life is one big risk. The CR is a little risk. You want to be bored or what?
December 19, 2010 4:32 am at 4:32 am #720858decisive viewpointMemberi think this coffee room is getting too far
December 19, 2010 5:20 am at 5:20 am #720859mw13Participantmischiefmaker: “I don’t say certain things because I don’t want a ten-year-old or something to answer as if he were my great-grandfather… What do u guys think? “
Take the comments for what their worth, not because of you think did or didn’t write them.
December 19, 2010 8:51 am at 8:51 am #720860PosterMemberI am a female. In order to really give and understand diff opinions in various threads, I think it is important to know genders. Since men and women think and respond diff…
December 19, 2010 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #720861RuffRuffMemberThe OPs screen name, being a Torah theme, albeit a Mussar one, suggests a male. However, the topic chosen suggests the opposite.
December 19, 2010 7:06 pm at 7:06 pm #720862Ma ChovasoMemberRuffRuff,
“Albeit a Mussar one,”… like, how female is that?
December 19, 2010 7:08 pm at 7:08 pm #720863smartcookieMemberMischief- you make me laugh. Do you really think that if someone says he’s male/44, that is true?
Anyone can fool you online when you don’t see/hear them.
It would be very interesting but ain’t gonna work.
And btw Mischief- I really seriously always thought you’re a boy.
December 19, 2010 8:46 pm at 8:46 pm #720864sof davar hakol nishmaMemberok ok ok, c’mon, do you all seriously take everything here so to heart? goodness? and
mischeif do you think pple will post what stage they’re up to and how old they are?
December 19, 2010 8:53 pm at 8:53 pm #720865Daniel BreslauerMemberI know for sure smartcookie is female. Well, not for sure, but like 99%.
As for me: male, 24 years old, married (3 years), no children yet, but 3 cats. Hashkafah: I’m somewhere between chareidi and MO (took a step ‘down’ in the last 2 years).
Let’s see anyone else confess the way I did.
December 19, 2010 10:33 pm at 10:33 pm #720866Ma ChovasoMemberWell Daniel, if you’re equating your MO status with a step down in your level of dedication to G-d and His commandments, then that is a shameful confession.
December 19, 2010 10:59 pm at 10:59 pm #720867smartcookieMemberDaniel- yes I’m female. But I or anyone else might be faking identity all these years.
Just trying to say, that as long as you don’t know the person LIVE, nothing is certain. Therefore this study won’t work.
December 20, 2010 12:01 am at 12:01 am #720870deiyezoogerMemberthe truth is never the truth until you see it with your own eyes and hear it with your own voice and until then just play it and have fun out there guessing.good luck to you all!
December 20, 2010 1:43 am at 1:43 am #720871Yanky123MemberI think these revelations take the fun out of CR.
December 20, 2010 4:30 am at 4:30 am #720872Ma ChovasoMembersmartcookie
the study was not to determine who actually is amale or female. it was only to gather everyones opinions on what sort of screenname they felt would belong to either a male or female.
December 20, 2010 5:24 pm at 5:24 pm #720873twistedParticipantthe men in the kitchen tread was fairly instructive, as was one thread that wandered into menstrual pain issues.
December 21, 2010 6:21 am at 6:21 am #720874Ma ChovasoMember🙂 twisted…hahahahaha you made me laugh this thread was worth it for your comment alone
December 21, 2010 5:37 pm at 5:37 pm #720876oomisParticipantAs the expression “smart cookie” is used primarily by females in my experience, I automatically assumed you are a “She.”
December 21, 2010 5:40 pm at 5:40 pm #720877oomisParticipantI am a female. Most people already know that. And I think it is true that different genders respond differently to posts. Women have binah yesairah, and men think in a linear way. It has to affect our way of looking at different issues.
December 21, 2010 10:38 pm at 10:38 pm #720878Trying my bestMemberMen tend to respond intellectually, while women tend to respond to issues emotionally. That is typically the most accurate indicator of the posters gender.
December 22, 2010 2:12 am at 2:12 am #720879Ma ChovasoMemberOh, so my freak outs are a give away? unless I plan them to throw you off… Its an art to be able to create a persona
December 22, 2010 2:34 am at 2:34 am #720880deiyezoogerMemberWhile we try to figure out what gender the posters are, why not take it a step further, like what type yid you are e.i. yeshivish, chasidish, MO, etc.
December 23, 2010 2:41 am at 2:41 am #720881metrodriverMemberMa chovaso; (To Daniel B.); You berate him for giving level grades in Yiddishkeit to distinguish between, let’s say a BMG member and MO. I love all Yidden. (Including the non-Religious.) But let’s be realistic. There IS a difference between the “Black Hats” and Modern Orthodox. Even among the MO themselves there are different grade levels. There are some in that camp (I know I’ll get H— for saying it. On another blog it created a fire storm after I made that statement.) that are no different than the Conservatives.
December 24, 2010 5:27 am at 5:27 am #720882Ma ChovasoMemberYou misunderstood me completely, I did not berate Daniel for distinguishing between different groups of Yidden, I merely questioned the apropriateness of the implication of his post. Please read or comprehend before you make statements.
