In another thread a poster equated a Kos L’Kidush and a Megila case in referrence to Hidur Mitzva. My ???? ?????? was that there is difference between a ??? used for the performance of the Mitzva and a ??? used for storing and transporting the ??? ?????. But I found a ?? ??????
The Gemara, Shabbat 133b, cites a Beraita that derives from the verse (Shemot 15:2) “zeh keli v’anveihu,” this is my G-d and I will glorify him, that one should glorify G-d through the performance of mitzvot. Therefore, one should have a nice sukkah, a nice lulav, a nice shofar, nice tzitzit and a nice sefer Torah. Ra’avad (cited in Chidushei Anshei Shem, Berachot 38a, no. 2) suggests that hiddur mitzvah is a biblical concept. Ritva, Sukkah 11b s.v. V’Ee, writes that hiddur mitzvah is a rabbinic concept. The Beraita includes on its list of items nice covers for a sefer Torah. This implies that the cases and covers used to store an item used for a mitzvah are also subject to hiddur mitzvah. Accordingly, having a nice lulav or etrog case would constitute a fulfillment of hiddur mitzvah. However, one can argue that one cannot bring a proof from the covers of a sefer Torah. Rambam, Hilchot Sefer Torah 10:10, writes that there is a special mitzvah to beautify a sefer Torah. As such, sefer Torah may be the exception to the rule. Nevertheless, the Mishna, Sukkah 45a, states that in the times of the Beit HaMikdash, the aravot for the simchat beit hasho’eiva were placed in gold vases prior to their use. This seems to indicate that there is some element of hiddur mitzvah in having a nice case for a lulav or etrog

Nice proof but there may be a flaw. This apparently was in the Bais Hamikdash. Why didnt he bring proof from the silver bowls used by the rich to bring ??????? ??

In the context of the nedavos brought for the mishkan, the torah mentions zahav, kesef and nechoshes. Clearly items listed in descending order of value. After these three, the torah mentions the avnei shoham. Certainly these stones were more valuable than at least nechoshes (possibly the kesef and even zahav – diamonds are girls best friend, after all), yet are mentioned last. I dont remember who says this…the reason the avnei shoham are mentioned last is because they yidden collected these as they fell from the sky every day with the man. Since they didnt spend any of their own money on it, the torah is not machshiv it.
Still reviewing hilchos chanuksh, but I remember from last year seeing one of the nosei keilim discuss the quesiton if it is more mehudar to use a beautiful but not so expensive menorah, or an expensive, but not so nice looking one. I believe the answer given was the hiddur was determined by the money spent, not necessarily the appearance.
To answer your question. I would say that using an expensive kos to make kiddush would qualify as hiddur. Of course, I have to get “chapter and verse”, until then take it as you want.

A friend told me that he saw ???”? ? ????? ??????? ????”? of Golders Green make Kidush on a bottle because he did not want use a disposable.
He agreed with Rav Neuwirth????”? on one point and not on the other.

Especially, when speaking of the Megilla, we learn ????? ???????. Additionally. To drink the Four Kay-ses on Purim is a Mitzvah.

There is a machlokes whether you may use a throw away cup for Kiddush on Shabbos. What about Neiros Chanuka, may you use the throw away glasses that come complete with oil and wick inside and are disposed each day?
The Halichos Shlomo (2:15:5) writes that Rav Shlomo Zalman Auerbach was matir L’chatchila. In the footnotes below it explains that the whole question is based on whether it is nice for the mitzva of Chanuka to use a throw away item. Since this throw away item is made special for use on Chanuka Rav Shlomo Zalman holds that it is permissible without any reservation.
The Minchas Yitzchok however holds that the problem with a throw away items is that it may not be considered a Keili. To this Rav Shlomo Zalman says that a Keili is not subject to the criteria of multi-use. The question is looking at the Keili itself is it sufficient to be considered a vessel.
