On the first day of Pesach, LAPD’s traffic enforcement division conducted a major pedestrian crosswalk enforcement sting at 2nd Street and Highland Ave in Hancock Park. The intersection has no traffic signal but does have a visible crosswalk. Pedestrians find it nearly impossible to cross the roadway with vehicles speeding in excess of 50MPH in a 30MPH zone.
Undercover LAPD officers using the crosswalk, walked out into traffic. Vehicles that did not stop were immediately pulled over and cited for ‘failure to yield to pedestrians in crosswalk’.
Over the three hour enforcement, 137 vehicles were stopped and cited. 17 vehicles were impounded for various offenses. 4 people were taken into custody on outstanding warrants.
Community members going to and from Shul stopped to thank the officers for their assistance and hard work.

I live in LA and think its nice that they are doing this, but is there really nothing else more important going on right now? Beverly HIlls cops are seriously bored with themselves.

The LAPD does this from time to time. they have a decoy walk into the street just as cars are driving their way. This practice does not replicate reality. no normal person starts to cross the street when the cars START driving in their direction. This is a form of entrapment IMHO. What will the LAPD tell the family of a decoy (usually an older officer) when he is run over because he started to cross the street exactly when cars started to drive at him?
what does this have to do with the yeshiva world? how does this effect us jews in flatbush?

This is a great idea. NY should do it as well. Failing to yield to pedestrians is a widespread problem that will not disappear without strict police enforcement.
