Whats it like? Is there shiur? What type of boys go there? Do they have a strong group of bochurim in the 22-23 age range?
March 1, 2013 3:31 am at 3:31 am #934791Imma613ParticipantCan anyone comment on this?
March 1, 2013 4:21 am at 4:21 am #934792midwesternerParticipantThreads that ask about specific mosdos are virtually all a total waste of time. One of two things happens. Either there is nasty Lashon Hara, or such empty puff positive stuff as to also be useless.

I wouldn’t say it’s your run of the mill Yeshiva.
“Is there shiur?”
They have many Shiurim from many Rebbeyim for many different levels.
“What type of boys go there?”
All types.
“Do they have a strong group of bochurim in the 22-23 age range?”
Now this I doubt, but they probably have some in this age group.
March 1, 2013 6:42 pm at 6:42 pm #934795Gangnam StyleMemberI would say they have a nice amount of guys in that age group because many guys in that yeshiva stay until they get married, and beyond as they also have a kollel. They might have slightly more bochurim in the 18-21 age group, but not by much.
March 3, 2013 2:18 am at 2:18 am #934797Torah613TorahParticipantI know several people who have married boys from Derech Chaim, and are very happy with the guidance and middos there.
March 3, 2013 3:51 am at 3:51 am #934798ThePurpleOneMemberhealth- why isnt it a run of the mill yeshiva?
March 3, 2013 7:05 pm at 7:05 pm #934799playtimeMemberThePurplleOne:
Yeshiva Derech Chaim is not a run-of-the-mill yeshiva because there is such a wide spectrum of student body. You could find shiurim there at any level, right up to par of the best yeshivos.
Each of the Hanhala and Rabeim are particularly spectacular- the same magnitude of which hard to come by nowadays.

Name one Rebbe who gives such a Shiur. I’m not knocking DC, but yes there are Shiurim on levels with a lot of other Yeshivos, but not on the level of the best Yeshivos. I’m considering the best Yeshivos like Brisk, Passaic, etc. I don’t think you have a clue what Shiurim in the best Yeshivos are like – so you exaggerated.

March 4, 2013 6:07 pm at 6:07 pm #934802oheiv sholomParticipantTalmud, don’t forget Rav Meir Platnick, Rav Yitzchok Yarmush and the rest of the rebbeim there who all have outstanding qualities
March 4, 2013 6:27 pm at 6:27 pm #934803I can only tryMemberDerech Chaim is very focused on learning.
Some of the lower shiurim are on an easier level than you might find at other batei medrashim.
The yeshiva is very serious about the learning on all levels, and talmidim are expected to be full-time learners. College is not allowed.
Several alumni are now rabeim in Derech Chaim and other yeshivos.
The learning and shiurim are all in English.
The bochrim are more Litvish than anything else, but there are a significant number of Chasidim and Sefardim, too.

I don’t know why you picked these two, but all the Rebbeyim have nice Middos.

The bochurim may choose to attend & graduate FDU on the bain hazmanim program.

You are mistaken. No Shiur there comes to the best Shiurim in the world.

This is a private question -I will not answer private questions. I’m surprised that it made it through Moderation. I’ve had posts of me asking remote questions -when s/o posts something and I asked for clarification and the posts were rejected because of privacy issues.
All I will say – I didn’t just make things up because I heard from s/o to s/o, etc. – I know first hand about it.
March 6, 2013 4:44 pm at 4:44 pm #934811agentParticipantWell, I also know first hand about this Yeshiva and when I see you posted negative comments about the Rebbeim in this Yeshiva especially Rav Pohrille, (who happens to be an extremely choshuv person) I am surprised the Mod’s let your post go through! I know a few very close people who have gone to his shiur and have been to other places as well so I know what his Shiurim are like.
And Yes Derech Chaim accepts many different kinds of Bochurim but they have many Rebbeim who teach on different levels. Rav Pohrille teaches on a very high level so yes I do agree with what Talmud said.
BTW I don’t know if you knew this but R’ Shmuel Birnbaum Zt”l said about Rav Pohrille that he is the “Masmid of America”

Wake up and smell the coffee. Just because I didn’t agree with you or Talmud – doesn’t mean I said anything negative about him or the Yeshiva. What is so hard for you to understand – that there are better Shiurim in the world than in DC? Nowadays eveyone has to be the best – good is Not good enough!
This is why we have a Shidduch crisis in the world. Because either the boy or the girl believe they deserve the best in the world – decent or good is Not good enough. Not e/o, everything can be the best. This is life. I really don’t understand how this mentally came about in America.
I think people have to learn the meaning of the word Anavah.

Is this an optical illusion?

No one is saying he is the best.
Just the fact that DC does have upper-level Shiurim also.
