It’s almost erev erev Tisha B’Av and Eliyahu HaNavi still hasn’t come yet. We have plenty of threads discussing our chisronos, so I thought it might be a good idea to start a thread listing our maylos- why we DO deserve to have the Geulah come already!
Even if Michoel doesn’t have internet, there is still to’eles in that when we see what a long list of maylos we have as a klal we will take pride in our Yiddishkeit and our status as bnei haMelech and will work harder to distance ourselves from cheit.
Discuss the chasadim and aliyos of your community and the klal in general here!

July 18, 2010 4:18 am at 4:18 am #690943philosopherMemberThe biggest shvach of the Yidden is that in the golus that has lasted over 2,000 years, we still are Torah true Jews.
Throughout the years in golus we were forced into slavery, forcibly converted, suffered through progroms, through the Crusaders, through the Inqisition, through blood libels, expulsions, forced into gettos, pillaged and plundered, we lived through the Holocaust,
AND WE ARE STILL HERE LIVING WITH EMUNAH AND BITACHON IN THE AIBISHTER AND WITH THE BELIEF THAT THE TORAH IS DIVINE.
Our children are in frum schools learning the holy Torah, our yungerleit are in kollel, we keep Shabbos and the mitzvos and we await the arrival of Moshiach tzidkeini bb”a.
July 18, 2010 4:31 am at 4:31 am #690944Dave HirschParticipantI would say that there was never this much Torah study ever!
Whether it is through Yeshivos/Kollelim or Daf Yomi Shiurim, learning Torah was never like it is nowadays. You have Artscroll Shas and Torah Tapes. Various types of Shiurim hotlines and web based teleconferences. Torah software and DVD’s, and even YWN coffee room! It is very hard to find a true Am Ha’aretz today. Almost everyone has a Torah education and enough knowledge to debate on a Sugya.
You can also add the Chesed out there. Never in history has there been so much Chesed. Just start counting the organizations and you won’t finish. And this is only public Chesed, what about the Tzedaka given in privacy?!
July 18, 2010 4:44 am at 4:44 am #690945Hello KittyMemberA family member was recently in hospital for a while. I couldnt believe how many organizations there are to help out the needy. It is amazing and a real zchus for all of us when Yiddishe Kinder help out each others even though we dont even know each others.
July 18, 2010 1:38 pm at 1:38 pm #690947Derech HaMelechMemberIn terms of chesed, I don’t know how it is in America but here in E”Y there are phone books with huge gemach sections for literally anything you could possibly think of and even more things that you never would have thought of!
July 19, 2010 2:55 pm at 2:55 pm #690948apushatayidParticipantI’m surprised that there are only 5 responses top this thread as I write this considering everyone and their uncle has an opinion on every “problem” that faces us today.
I want to publicly thank the people who stopped to offer me assistance on Rt 17 when they saw me there with my car.
To the person who stopped and said “I have nothing to offer except my presence, so you dont have to stand on the side of the road, alone,” Yasher Koach and thank you.
To the couple who stopped and offered cold drinks and pastries while I was waiting for AAA, thank you.
To the numerous people who slowed down and asked if I needed assistance in any way, thank you.
To the gentleman who saw me waiting on the side of the road at the Rock Hill Service Station (where I was towed by AAA), who stopped and asked if everything was OK and how he could be of assistance, thank you.
Your chessed and offers of assistance should be a zechus for all klal yisroel.
I hope this thread will generate at least as many responses as any other thread offering much fodder for the kategor as we head into Tisha Bav.
July 19, 2010 3:05 pm at 3:05 pm #690949blinkyParticipantThere is so much achdus around-whether with Rubashkin, Shalit….Everyone is together to be mispallel for them. By the goyim you wish they care if another goy is in jail.
July 22, 2010 5:07 am at 5:07 am #690950Hello KittyMemberIt’s sad to see that this thread is not growing too much. There are so many threads about the negative why can’t we take a minute to think positive.
July 22, 2010 2:25 pm at 2:25 pm #690951Dave HirschParticipantI met a secular Israeli recently in Manhattan. Realizing that he’s a Jew in a foreign country, I reached out to him (remember Project Inspire!) and struck up a conversation. He told me that he was here with a friend that’s battling cancer. He came to Sloan-Kettering with him to assist him. That fellow, which he became close to in the army, lost his wife to cancer a couple of years ago. I expressed myself on the Achdus of the Jewish nation saying, look a friend coming overseas to assist a fellow friend, like brothers. He told me how flabbergasted he was seeing all those organizations coming to the hospital and servicing the patients and their families. He was heaping praise upon Chai-Lifeline like I never heard before. We both declared with astonishment, Mi Keamcha Yisroel!
July 22, 2010 10:49 pm at 10:49 pm #690952laguyMemberOn Tisha B’Av night in shul I was sitting on the floor and listening to Eicha. There was a small group of individuals in shul that night that were clearly disabled who had come to hear Eicha as well. About half way through, they had to leave which they did relatively quietly. A couple of minutes later one of the fellows cam back in and asked a couple of people if they had seen his hat, he came in wearing it, but didn’t remember where he put it. Immediately, no less than 5 people got up to try to assist this gentleman find his hat, he was very worried. There was no “shushing” form anyone, just a very quick reaction to help a fellow Jew. I know this isn’t a grand scale thing, but it struck me that this is exactly what the previous three weeks was about, the introspection and how we treat one another. So at least at that quick moment, Tisha B’Av had it’s meaning play out.
The second thing that I want to share was also on Erev Tisha B’Av. As you may have read, we had a major tragedy hit our community on Monday when an unassuming member of our community was murdered by his tenant. If there is ever a time when you can see the Chesed of our people, unfortunately it is in times of tragedy. Anyway, behind the scenes of this harrowing experience there were members of Hatzolah that were at the home providing care to the family after hearing of their immense loss. Now you would think that after everyone was “stable”, they would have left, but no. After hearing that the niftar’s father was in another county an hour away, and wasn’t in the best of health, they went to go pick him up, this way if he had some “problem” on the way back to his now deceased son’s home, he could be tended to immediately. This all happened in the late hours of the day when most other people were sitting down to their meals. These guys each went into the fast with just a few mouthfuls prior, because they were caring for another person who simply needed them. The following day, some of these same guys were out at the levaya, in the hot sun, standing by just in case.
If someone can show me another community that can tell the same stories, I would be shocked!
July 23, 2010 2:34 pm at 2:34 pm #690953blinkyParticipantJust look around. There are so many devoted young men and women who spend their summer in a special needs camp-its so beautiful to hear how the campers are having a wonderful time-even though they are going through rough times. The staff are very caring individuals who really make a diffeerence. Keep it up!

July 27, 2010 6:48 pm at 6:48 pm #690956apushatayidParticipantHere’s another from the Mi KiAmcha Yisroel files.
I have a neighbor who has forgone, so far, 1 months rent on an apartment he normally rents out, so that a recently separated woman and her children have a place to stay until they get back on their feet. While it has not been confirmed, “the block”, claims he restocks the fridge and pantry once a week as well.
Please feel encouraged to post as MANY posts here as you do in other threads.
July 28, 2010 7:57 pm at 7:57 pm #690959apushatayidParticipantThe encouragement provided by others is truly inspiring.
July 28, 2010 8:12 pm at 8:12 pm #690960WolfishMusingsParticipantI do nothing inspiring for anyone. I have nothing to contribute here.
