The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) applauded the arrest of three suspects for bias intimidation and harassment after they allegedly targeted Jews in Lakewood by throwing eggs at them.
On the night of May 19, while observing the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, several Orthodox Jews walking on the street were pelted with eggs from individuals in a passing vehicle. Lakewood Police, working with Jackson Police, were able to identify the suspects and arrested Stacey Krohn, Edward A. Kerby Jr. and Mark L. Johnson.
Etzion Neuer, ADL New Jersey Regional Director, issued the following statement:
“We congratulate the Lakewood and Jackson Police Department for their swift work in making arrests in this senseless and bigoted assault. Although to some, throwing eggs may appear to be harmless fun, the victims were allegedly targeted because of their faith in an attempt to threaten and intimidate the Jewish community. By charging the suspects with a bias crime we send a clear message to the perpetrators that hatred and bigotry will not be tolerated in New Jersey.”
