4 pounds apples
1 lemon
2 cinnamon sticks
1/2 cup apple juice, cider or water
Honey, brown sugar or maple syrup to taste.
Quarter the apples and the lemon. Place in a heavy pot with the cinnamon sticks. Add apple juice, cider or water. Cover, bring to a boil, and let simmer over low heat, stirring occasionally. You may want to add some liquid. Cook about 20 minutes, or until apples are soft. Remove cinnamon sticks. Put the sauce through a food mill and adjust seasoning by adding honey, brown sugar or maple syrup to taste.

variations – add sugar, and/or cinnamon sticks, and/or frozen strawberries
Enjoy!

November 1, 2016 1:18 am at 1:18 am #1189197LightbriteParticipantKetchup?? Def never heard of that
Applesauce on latkes is so yummy when the latkes are hot. Less appealing when the latkes are cold (like leftovers). Then again, I’m not into cold latkes in general.
Has anyone had ice cream on latkes?
November 2, 2016 2:42 am at 2:42 am #1189198147ParticipantStill 53 nites left until ?????
November 4, 2016 2:44 am at 2:44 am #1189199LightbriteParticipantNo Hashem definitely wants latkes and applesauce to go together. They’re beshert.
The bas kol decreed it before latkes were invented.
November 4, 2016 4:12 pm at 4:12 pm #1189200flatbusherParticipantI grew up with applesauce and latkes. My wife didn’t. It’s a cultural thing, I guess.
November 6, 2016 1:01 am at 1:01 am #1189201LightbriteParticipantflatbusher: Applesauce and latkes are beshert. You were born to ensure that your wife was introduced to applesauce on latkes.
