Ames, I love spiked coffee 🙂 I’ve been pregnant/nursing/pregnant for the last 2.5 years so my alcohol consumption has gone way down, but I could really use a spiked cup right now!
I’m a big fan of Starbucks decaf. I add a splash of milk (just really to change the color) and no sugar. If I’m in the mood for a sugary drink, I love mochas!
Oh and never pay for iced coffee. Most places will give you a cup of ice at no charge. Get a cup of hot coffee and pour over the ice. Much cheaper 🙂
July 6, 2009 1:18 pm at 1:18 pm #682956cholentkugelkishkeMemberNothing beats a boiling Taster’s Choice poured (w/o a spoon) into a styrofoam cup w/o sugar before Davening in the Shtibel after the Mikva. Ah….
Forget all the brewed junk – this is really a Taam Gan Eden!!
July 6, 2009 6:35 pm at 6:35 pm #682957jewishfeminist02MemberI make instant Nescafe every morning with soymilk and one sugar packet and drink it in the car on the way to work. (No worries; I get a ride from a neighbor who works in the same area so there’s no safety issue with “drinking” and driving, lol.)
When I want to treat myself at Starbucks, I get a mocha latte, a chai latte, a cinnamon soy latte, or a regular iced coffee. Actually, the woman who drives me to work gave me the tip about the chai latte. She told me she buys it every morning and she is now so addicted, she has to also buy an iced one on Friday to have for Shabbos morning!
I love the Aroma chain in Israel and have heard that they have a branch in NY. Has anyone ever been there? Is it as good as the Israeli branches?
July 6, 2009 8:57 pm at 8:57 pm #682958feivelParticipantthere are three things ive noticed that their taste always disappoints after their aroma has been appreciated.
they may taste fine, but never live up to their aroma’s promise.
popcorn
barbecue
coffee
July 6, 2009 8:58 pm at 8:58 pm #682959just meParticipantI love Dunkin’ Donuts coffee. I buy it by the pound. I put in mostly coffee and the rest milk. I love half and half but I use low fat because of calaries and cholesteral. I don’t use sugar or sweetner. When I’m at work, the DD coffee store near me is run by half wits and they manage to ruin plain coffee so I go to the 7/11 a block away and get their regular blend coffee. They have cholov Yisroel milk. I am use cholov stam but if cholov Yisroel is available I prefer that. It also shows the 7/11 that cholov Yisroel is wanted.
OOOHH. I think I need a cup now.
July 6, 2009 9:08 pm at 9:08 pm #682960areivimzehlazehParticipantJust about any Green Mountain flavor…
Extra large cup (a double coffee), 1 splenda, drop of milk
I tried getting used to black coffee- didn’t conquer that yet
July 6, 2009 9:11 pm at 9:11 pm #682961shaatraMemberSJS: u mean the mocha ice coffee from starbuks already in the glass? Ask them for a big cup of ice, leave it in for 5 minutes and its awesomeee!!!!
July 6, 2009 11:26 pm at 11:26 pm #682962JosephParticipantThose who enjoy instant coffee over brewed… beware of the squeak!
July 6, 2009 11:40 pm at 11:40 pm #682963mazal77ParticipantOh, my goodness, I finally ordered and treated myself to my first cappichino on Thursday at Cafe Venezia, and sorry Maxwell house to steal your phrase, but it was “good to the last drop.” But it was a bit pricey for me, so it’s going to be a while for another. Now I know why people splurge on it!
July 7, 2009 12:17 am at 12:17 am #682964SJSinNYCMemberShaatra, I’m too cheap to buy it in stores. I only make it at home LOL.
July 7, 2009 1:35 am at 1:35 am #682965just meParticipantareivimzehlazeh, I agree about the Green Mountain. Their Ethiopian is unreal! Too pricy though. 🙁
My mother-in-law nebach has Alzheimers and doesn’t always recognize everyone, but when I accidentally gave her some generic coffee she looked at me and said “This isn’t Folgers!”. 🙂 Coffee is coffee.
Some mornings I feel there should be a special bracha for coffee. I usually feel very grateful to the Rebonon Shel Olam for my morning cup.
July 7, 2009 1:53 am at 1:53 am #682966goner88MemberI am under the impression (told by a reliable rav) that NOT all starbucks is kosher, only the non flavored unless it’s from a starbucks with a hechsher. Has anyone else heard this before? I know a lot of people that make this mistake…
July 7, 2009 2:08 am at 2:08 am #682967YW Moderator-72Participantfor brewed coffee… 7/11. the one in monsey puts out the Cholov Yisroel milk
for those that have to go with instant: Chock-full of Nuts is the best of the instants.
oh and by the way for anyone interested in sending over a cup, I take it with no sugar and the 1% milk.

July 7, 2009 4:32 pm at 4:32 pm #682971squeakParticipantI’m no newbie and I didn’t know that you cut the milk fat content in half.
July 7, 2009 4:34 pm at 4:34 pm #682972JosephParticipantThanks squeak. I was just forewarning the newbies here.
July 7, 2009 4:37 pm at 4:37 pm #682973YW Moderator-72Participantok just to clarify so we get it right… I use the blue label C’Y milk
July 7, 2009 4:44 pm at 4:44 pm #682974squeakParticipantWe’re clear, but while blue label is the smoothest, it is not worth the price tag.
July 7, 2009 5:00 pm at 5:00 pm #682975WolfishMusingsParticipantI probably drink about two to three cups of coffee a year. So, FWIW, when I do have coffee, it’s usually Maxwell House instant. 🙂

Sorry, it might be a bit cold by now.
BTW, do you guys really believe that coffee helps you stay awake? Or is it all psychological?
July 7, 2009 5:34 pm at 5:34 pm #682978squeakParticipantDo you really believe that food gives your body energy, or is that just psychological? It is physiological.
July 7, 2009 6:40 pm at 6:40 pm #682979YW Moderator-72Participanttime for another cup… anyone want to join me?

July 8, 2009 6:49 am at 6:49 am #682987NobodyMemberMod 72 – 1% fat mailk?????. Why bother putting any milk in the coffee at all if you’re using 1%!!
July 8, 2009 1:25 pm at 1:25 pm #682988SJSinNYCMemberShaatra, considering I spend like $5/year on coffee, thats a huge chunk 🙂 I just wait until others from my office buy me coffee for no reason LOL.
July 8, 2009 2:36 pm at 2:36 pm #682989mepalMemberCharlie, welcome back!
apparently, you haven’t read my previous post. I’m surprised they let that thru in the first place! And that they didn’t kick me out yet for posting such a blatant insult to the CR… 😉
July 8, 2009 4:50 pm at 4:50 pm #682990Mayan_DvashParticipantHow should one categorize Lipa Schmeltzer’s Kava? To me it seems to lean more toward Decaf, but enjoyable nontheless.

July 8, 2009 7:22 pm at 7:22 pm #682991shaatraMemberSJS: lol too bad I don’t know you otherwise I would buy u coffee all the time! Today I got it from 711, cost me $2.30….
July 8, 2009 8:13 pm at 8:13 pm #682992SJSinNYCMemberShaatra, one day we’ll meet. Then I’ll take you up on that offer LOL.
July 8, 2009 10:26 pm at 10:26 pm #682993shaatraMemberSJS: lol aight!
July 9, 2009 9:49 am at 9:49 am #682995NobodyMemberActually jokes aside I would like to ask a question.
A guy told me that he has up to 15 cups of regular coffee each day (not always finishing them all) and puts two very heaped teaspoons of coffee into each cup.
I find this information a little hard to swallow (pun intended!!!). I would have assumed that the intake of so much caffeine would have a serious detrimental affect to the physical health as well as the emotional health of someone taking such quantities
Your views and thoughts on this would really be appreciated.
July 9, 2009 11:25 am at 11:25 am #682996yankdownunderMemberNobody- You are 100% right consuming so many cups of coffee a day is unhealthy. Cafeine is a form of natural speed, and it is unhealthy for the nervous system (when consumed in such amounts) I am sure. I think this is the down side of drinking coffee, when drinking coffee ceases to become an enjoyable beverage. Nobody this person has an addiction and needs help to wean his consumption.
Do you think he would consider substituting Green or White Tea for some of the copious cups drunk?
Perhaps maybe you could suggest that he make an appointment to see his physcian for an over all examination.
July 9, 2009 1:45 pm at 1:45 pm #682997NobodyMemberYank/d/u – I take everything he says with a minute pinch of salt and I believe he does exagerate for the purpose of being the centre of attention. Not a hope he’d switch to anything else and in fact even when I’ve been in his company for several hours I’ve never seen him with a cup. I just wondered in case it were true……
July 9, 2009 1:45 pm at 1:45 pm #682998jewishfeminist02MemberI miss my coffee today!!
July 9, 2009 3:24 pm at 3:24 pm #682999mepalMemberDont even START, JF2…
July 9, 2009 4:03 pm at 4:03 pm #683000Mayan_DvashParticipantI’ll just wait until around 2 – 3PM when they refill the coffee grinds in the machine. I’ll inhale extra strong for all the fasters here.

July 9, 2009 4:15 pm at 4:15 pm #683001shaatraMemberMake sure u drink coffee with a straw, no one wants yellow teeth 🙂
July 9, 2009 5:15 pm at 5:15 pm #683002NobodyMemberI wonder what the linings of the stomach looks like if the teeth go yellow
July 9, 2009 5:43 pm at 5:43 pm #683003mepalMemberRed.
July 9, 2009 7:23 pm at 7:23 pm #683004JosephParticipantjf02, when you started posting in the CR, you still had never had your first cup of coffee.
Look what has happened to you.
July 10, 2009 12:22 am at 12:22 am #683005bein_hasdorimParticipantNobody: search old thread bout your earlier inquiry bout too much coffee. 🙂
My Secret to a great coffee is
1) At least 2-3 tablespoons coffee (it has to be strong)
2) I usually mix 2 even 3 favorite brand together (they compliment each other)
3) Ample sugar
4) I add a few splashes of starbucks coffee liquor
milk to taste, the red (label) milk makes a better coffee
for the blue label is too watery,
unless its Johnnie Walker 🙂
Oh! & sometimes I add cocoa for some change.
July 10, 2009 2:07 pm at 2:07 pm #683006squeakParticipantI hear that Starbucks liquor is going the way of the dodo….. sorry ladies.
