Any fun/cute activities to so in the summer with bored kids of all ages?
I’ll go first! Here’s mine!
I actually first did this in High School and I’m now using in my summer camp.

Making ice cream in a bag!!
Great activity, FOR ALL AGES, i’ll post the recipe in a moment!
Get one of those rotating sprinklers and have everyone jump in! If your backyard isn’t private enough, send everyone in their clothing. That is also tons of fun 😉
We have a slide/ swingset in our backyard. Last week my kids & some friends set a hose up on top of the slide & played in their swimsuits.

I did it in camp one year but mine didnt work :(. It turned into milkshake!

What you’ll need:
* 1 tablespoon sugar
* 1/2 cup milk or half & half
* 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
* 6 tablespoons rock salt
* 1 pint-size plastic food storage bag (e.g., Ziploc)
* 1 gallon-size plastic food storage bag
* Ice cubes
How to make it:
1. Fill the large bag half full of ice, and add the rock salt. Seal the bag.
2. Put milk, vanilla, and sugar into the small bag, and seal it.
3. Place the small bag inside the large one, and seal it again carefully.
4. Shake until the mixture is ice cream, which takes about 5 minutes.
5. Wipe off the top of the small bag, then open it carefully. Enjoy!
Tips:
A 1/2 cup milk will make about 1 scoop of ice cream, so double the recipe if you want more. But don’t increase the proportions more that that — a large amount might be too big for kids to pick-up because the ice itself is heavy.
i dont know what rock salt is
i wondered whether regular table salt would work
i found this:
table salt works quite well because it is more soluble than rock salt. It is not used much because it costs quite
a lot more than rock salt.

table salt “works” better because table salt is a much finer grain and so it comes to equilibrium with
the ice/water quicker. The only “ice cream maker’s” reason might be that you do not want the temperature
to get too low. There is probably some differential in price, but both forms of salt are so inexpensive
for home-made ice cream compared to the other ingredients, that is not an important consideration.

Rock salt is cheaper.
Some ice cream makers do recommend using table salt, so there is obviously no operational reason not to use
it. But if rock salt will suffice, using table salt in an ice cream freezer is like washing your floor
with distilled water – too much added cost for not much added benefit.

Here is a summer tip:
Q. What is the quickest way to get drinks cold?
A. Take a cooler add water, add salt to the water, then add ice. Put your drinks in and in about 10-15 minutes you should have ice cold drinks!

Take a package of chulent beans. Spread it on your front lawn and tell the kids you’re having a bean hunt. It’ll keep them really busy for a while. Then you can plant the beans. Beans really grow!

CAN ANYONE GIVE ME ADVICE??:
I have a large above-ground swimming pool, (about 12 feet diameter. I have an electric pump filter which I keep running whenever noone is in the pool. (the users manual says not to run it while people are swimming). I use the floating type chlorine dispenser to keep the water sanitized.
I have two problems: A) after about two weeks of use the water turns green. Adding more chlorine did not solve the problem. B)When I emptied the pool, (to change the water) by opening the drain plug near the bottom, there still remained about 3 inches of water below the drain line, which i have no idea how to remove from the pool. What should I do??????

Re: color war
one summer in sleepaway when I was a counselor (we knew CW was about to break, of course), a camp play was about to be presented. All of a sudden, we heard arguing from behind the curtain, and it was getting louder and louder. Two counselors were shouting at each other and came from behind the curtain angrily. i forget what they were actually saying, but it was clear they were having a heated argument over something related to the play. The campers were listening to this eyes agog and mouths open! Finally one of the two arguers shouted, “There is only one way to resolve this problem!” They then jerked open the curtains and a HUGE sign saying “COLOR WAR” was the backdrop. pandemonium broke out, and it was wonderful. The kids really got into the spirit of it right away.
