Baruch Hashem for the Gerrer rebbe, who told his community that newly marrieds cannot live in Yerushalayim, thus causing the growth of smaller palces throughout Eretz Yisroel.
Baruch Hashem for our gedolim of today who have high-caliber students as rabbeim in out-of-town mosdos around the country and tell them to stay where they are and not to grab at the many New York Metropolitan opportunities that comes their way.
The message that I get from this, and that any out-of-towner should get, is the importance of our gedolim! Look what they are able to maintain when they are here, and look what we lose when they are gone! Everyone should please put their efforts into davening for health and arichus yamim for all our gedolim, because when the next one is niftar, who know which out of town community will lose out, and who can estimate how that will effect yiddeshkeit as a whole and the cheshbonos in shamayim.

Their goal is “Harbatzas Torah” and they usually will not leave the community without the guidance of their Rebbeim who will usually tell them to stay put until they first find an equal replacement.

But I don’t think its a miracle that when members of the clergy are dwelling in any particular area, that they perform their duties there. When a Rav is in a neighborhood he does his job and so the community can grow. When there is no Rav in a community there is no one there to help the community grow. Its a simple equation.
If there would be no shochet in yout city, then you would not have any kosher meat.

February 24, 2009 2:19 am at 2:19 am #638729goody613MemberOne thing i don’t get if 10 yrs ago R’ Birnbaum told him not to now that he is no longer with us it’s now mutar (i personally am happy with him movig to flatbush being he will be near me ad i can hear him speak)
February 24, 2009 1:22 pm at 1:22 pm #638730ddParticipantAm I the only one who finds this NY-centric attitude condescending? There are plenty of cities that have thriving frum communities, always had thriving communities, and have locally bred rabbis. These communities often have transplanted New Yorkers who can’t imagine why they didn’t come sooner.
February 24, 2009 4:39 pm at 4:39 pm #638731tzippiMemberSo let me get this straight: the whole point of this beautiful, hartzig post was the last two paragraphs of rechilus gamur?
Pardon me for sounding so judgmental. I realize you speak from pain. But have you tried to reach Rabbi Lieff privately? Bet he’s in the phonebook.

Its Flatbush-centric, not NYC.

This is the effect of most of the posters being in Flatbush. Its only fair.
February 24, 2009 7:04 pm at 7:04 pm #638734SJSinNYCMemberI would also like to thank those that move out of town to establish neighborhoods. I think its an amazing sacrifice and I really appreciate the effort (which I leech off of when I travel).
My friend moved to Australia with a group of 9 other families to start a Kollel. Unfortunately, it didn’t last more than a few years (I don’t know why), but we did go visit her. The community was fantastic and they did a lot of good during that time.
