unfortunately, there are so many to choose from…. everybody is gonna have a suggestion of their own. Do you think this thread will stay civil?

Being that we have so many experts in the CR re: t’filla- can we start with that? Any aspect of it

How about making 1 person a day happy, by giving him/her compliment, smile, call etc..???

squeak you remind me of a story.A person is trying to chap a hitch so he sticks out his hand and after awhile a guy pulls over and says”What a pity it’s not last week when i was working on chesed ,this week i’m working on feeling other’s pain- so i feel very bad that you don’t have a ride!” and with that he drove off!

squeak, you know what you remind me of? A little girl started calling her grandmother every Friday to wish her good shabbos. Well, after a while she stopped doing it and her grandmother asked her why she stopped calling. She very innocently answered, “Bubby, the contest in school is over.”

ames- now that I’m officially nominated as Rebbe, I hope you don’t mind but how about if we start with Ga’avah? 🙂

    #665418

    areivim,

thanks for the compliment. I have to compliment you on the way you gave a compliment even though it doesn’t come easy. 🙂

I have something that we can do everyday: buy yourself a notebook and every day/night write one page of thank You Hashem for….. And u list everything u appreciate. U really come to be a better and more appreciative person. 🙂

Here’s a challenging one. How about not answering back if someone says something to you that you dislike, get embarrassed, etc…. Self control is tough, but mightily worth it. I believe someone who doesn’t answer back in such a situation has a great power to give Brachos. (Don’t know the Passuk offhand)

Ezeh who ha’ashear?? Ha somayach b’cheilko. Who is the wealthy one?? He who is happy with his lot. Along the lines of syrian. It also encompasses Hakorot HaTov. thankul to Hashem for what we have already.

    #665427

    Ames and asfghjkl: thanx!

Asdfghjk: you always SHOULD be nice (don’t know if u HAVE to be nice)

valuing precious time. ( time equals life- use it wisely, and dont waste it on shtusim in the coffee room)

my suggestion: if you spend (for example) everyday 20 minutes on the coffee, cut it down to 10, and use those extra 10 minuted on chesed, tefillah,…..etc… you decide 🙂

how about chesed, it’s something we could all apply to our day & then talk about how we did it later that day/night???

ok I was nice tonight.. I was really tempted to be obnoxious to someone tonight and I held back cuz I said I wouldn’t want them to do that thing to me and this week the middah is being nice so I didn’t and I am extrememly proud of myself, thank you! And they have NO IDEA what I almost did hehe 🙂

How abt we take syrians idea in a different way. We should get a notebook and in it write down each day that week things we did to fit into the midah of the week like for this week every page will have things we did nice for ppl. next week could write abt anivus that we worked on each day etc. as for a vort on tikun midos check out my vort on dvar torah page (i have no oclue how to link it to this page)

Asdf- aww… you were so nice and I am thnking you once again. now you can be nice and gice me a wake up call cuz I am so tired from going to sleep every night at 2 in the am cuz this ridiculous coffee addiction with lots of sugar and milk!!!

you can also be nice and take care of all the things I gotta do. All others that want to help and be nice- please join. i’ll be the chessed of the day 😉 j/k.

True story- I heard of a teacher that was teaching her class about saying thank you to parents for everything they do. Before school was over on Thursday, the teacher told the girls to try and than their mothers for the suppers they prepare. She joked with them – of course dont tell ur parents that your teacher told u to say thank you.

One Monday when the girls came back to school the teacher asked them how many of them remebered to thank their mothers after supper. So girls raised their hands and said how happy their mothers were. One girl raised her hand and said, ” I kept thanking my mother over shabbos, so she asked me ‘why are u thanking me so much lately’, to which I answered ‘my teacher said I am not allowed to say.'”!!

    I thought this was adorable!

But thanking other people is great Middah. Notice the small things. Everyone loves to feel appreciated.

Don’t like that idea? Didn’t think so. Then I’m with jphone’s idea 🙂

During the day, I could say that it’s ok bec I have “nothing” to do, but at night, different story. I have to be up early in the morning and staying up til three doesn’t increase my work performance in any form or fashion. That’s waste!!!!

The truth is, it’s all waste. An addiction that I can’t break….. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    I am voting for this:

    8) being happy with what we have

because if a person is happy with what they have, many other pieces of the puzzle fall into place.
