This morning there was a horrible accident in Israel when a bus flipped down a ravine killing close to 30 people and injuring another 30, most of them critically.

Why is it, that people must post the same stupid question on such tragic threads. The question which was posted this morning (and shortly after thankfully deleted by the moderators) is:

    Anyone Jewish?

    Are they Yidden?

    Any Jews killed?

Why must people post such ignorant comments?

jO jO, I posted an article about a little girl who swallowed a battery and how ill she was. Someone told me I should have posted that she was “nochri” in my description.

I think YWN should close this topic before it gets out of hand.

there was an explosion on the block that my brother lives.

i didnt ask about him however, i just wanted to know if anyone was hurt.

i had no particular concern for my brother more that anyone else.

    i love everyone equally.

when I am driving with my children and we see and/or hear an ambulance whiz by with blaring sirens, we say a perek of tehillim or a short tefilla for whoever is need of the emergency medical help. (not my original idea—I heard it on a tape from an inspirational speaker but can’t remember which one–hope to hasten the geulah anyway despite my inability to say b’shem omro)

One of my children asked me when I suggested this for the first time “how do you know they’re Jewish?” my response was “I don’t—everyone is created b’tzelem elokim, and this will train us to be more compassionate, which will arouse Hashem’s rachmanus which the whole world needs”.

    kiruvwife,

R’ Avigdor Miller Zecher Tzaddik V’kadosh L’vracha. I heard that tape too.

Although your second paragraph was not on the tape. I’m not agreeing, disagreeing or looking for an argument. Just pointing it out for the sake of accuracy.

I re-posted your entire paragraph, because it so resonated with me, that I felt it bore repeating.

notpashut–thank you. now I will try to look up which tape it was that R’ Miller ZTz”L

discussed this…and I appreciate the clarification as to what was on the tape–I see how it could seem the 2nd paragraph was being quoted from the tape, but that was what I added. (and I’m going to work on remembering who said what).

kiruvwife, that is wonderful! There can never be enough tefila and compassion is great across the board.

After all, think of hallel and pesach.

he said: paraphrased as closely as i can:

if one hears an ambulance or fire siren he should daven that if it is a Jew, he should have a refuah and yeshuah.

the child understood, i hope he did not get mis-educated.

R’ Feivel–I appreciate so much your clarification as well.

I’m not sure why you assumed I wouldn’t like what HoRav Miller ZTz’l had to say…it is emes and I like it…

so we will continue to say a tefillah when we hear the sirens wail. If it is a Yid he should have a refuah and if it’s not than the tefillah we say will go to Hashem and He will decide what to do with it. It’s not a stira to feel concern for whoever is in the ambulance. What I honed from the message on the tape was increasing our level of concern for our fellow yidden.

In any case, the act of being aware of one’s surroundings and in tune with the need to be compassionate in general can only enhance the midos one wants to insill in their children.

To be sure though, when it does happen again I will add that if it is a yid in the ambulance, it will enhance our Ahavas Chinom and Ahavas Yisroel…if it isn’t a yid, we can direct our tefillos to the Rofei Chol Bosor, and reiterate that Hashem is in charge of every briah. I think that would be in line with the Rov’s teachings.

No offense at all but can people really not understand why someone would want to know if any of his brothers died? All Jews are brothers (and sisters) so obviously one of the first questions asked is if my brother is OK. They are not trying to say that the other deaths are meaningless to them rather inquiring about their brothers safety…

Please someone explain this to me…

    i apologize

ive seen so many people here, who hold their opinion to be greater than the Gedolim that i expected that kind of response.

Mr. Brown – i don’t do yiddish. all i understood from that post is “rabbosei” “nisht” “internet” “rav avigdor miller ZTL” and “beis medrash”

not gonna get me too far. you mind trying that in hebrew?

    Apology much appreciated

woah—I didn’t realize those sentiments existed prevalently (people claiming to know more then our gedolim—I can’t be mekabel that those people were sufficiently educated as to what our Gedolim truly are for klal yisroel)

In any case, my yiddish is not all that great, and it’s much worse when written in “Havoras English”…..but what I’m picking up is that it’s not exactly L’chatchila to be delving into the topic I brought up….

I surely didn’t realize this would lead to a request to it being removed…definitely will be more careful next time

    p.s. I second the request for a translation…..clarification

I’ve been asked by non-Yiddish and non-Hebrew speakers for translations of printed or posted text on occasion. DLC B’RM

    brooklyn 19,

Brown was basically saying that what R’ Miller said is of course emes but he said it in a bais medrash and not everything has to be repeated on the internet for ALL to read. (I think targum shivim could be a good example, where certain things were changed so they should not be offensive to them…)
