The Board of Education today introduced its proposed 2007 budget. On April 17, voters will decide on a $64,782,523 tax levy. The proposed operating budget for 2007 is $111,180,282. This is an increase of
$3,135,414, or 2.82 percent, when compared to the 2006 budget of $108,180,282. The local tax levy is $64,782,523.
The tax rate will increase from 80.6 cents per $100 of assessed value to 83.8 cents per $100 of assessed value. For a person with a home assessed at $291,000, the annual school tax bill would be $2,439.
District officials say the increase is the result of rises in fixed costs — in particular, salaries, operating expenses and insurance costs.

My question is: most of Lakewood’s educational centers are privately funded (non-public) schools (i.e. Yeshivos and Bais Yaakovs) So why SO MUCH $$$ ($111,180,282) needed for only 7 public schools???? Someone has got some explaining to do!!
