JFK Security A Joke? American-Egyptian Detained After Flying From NY With Weapons Arsenal‎

An American-Egyptian man was detained in Cairo after arriving from New York’s John F. Kennedy airport when officials discovered he was traveling with an arsenal of guns, knives and swords, the Associated Press reported Wednesday.

Officials said the man tried to pass through Egyptian customs with a metal box containing two guns, 250 bullets, several swords, daggers and knives.

The Egypt Air passenger was in custody and under investigation. Reports did not indicate whether the man had permits for the weapons, had checked them in legally or whether such cargo is legal on the airline.

JFK has tightened its security significantly over the past several months following widely-publicized breaches including the near-departure of attempted Times Square bomber Faisal Shazhad on a flight to Dubai.

  1. First of all, thank-you so much for upgrading your website. The present configuration is the best yet!

Second, the first sentence says it all. If we are refusing to profile and will treat Muslim young men the same as elderly Jewish grandmothers from the Bronx, then we will ignore the real troublemakers.

  2. There should be no “question mark” in the title of this article.
“JFK Security a Joke” should be followed by exclamation points!!!

  3. well I went through security erev pesach on my way to israel with a metal fork and sharp knife in my HAND luggage!! i have no idea why it was there but it was and i only discovered it on the plane. i had a stop over in Paris where they discovered it and confiscated it.

  4. Now, in the interest of safety, we need to really clamp down on shampoo, toothpaste and a water bottles going through security. That is where the real threat lies.

  5. And I couldn’t take a “decorative door handle” that I bought for my Fl home in NY because it can be used as a “weapon”. I asked, if I need to check in my arms and legs, as they can be used as a weapon too. I only had carry on luggage. They made me go check in this small box.

  6. Unless the weapons were in hand luggage, what’s the issue?

Shipping weapons in checked luggage is not a security issue which is why it got through screening (he can’t seize the plane if the weapons are in the cargo hold).

It probably violates many Egyptian laws (import licenses required, customs, questions as to what he was doing with the weapons) – but that’s not an air traffic issue.

  7. Never thought I’d agree with Akuperma(n), but you ARE allowed to fly with unloaded firearms in your checked in luggage as long as you inform the airline.
The problem is that they label your luggage accordingly, and you risk having the baggage handlers steal your guns.

  8. #8 that is not true they do not label your luggage if you have guns and ammo in them,it is against the law for them to do that.Whay they do is stick a card in the luggage next to the gun that says this gun has been declared. i have flown with guns many times

  9. Anyone remember the movie Airplane?

The White male with nothing dangerous is getting frisked from head to toe while the Arab terrorists are walking through with automatic weapons held up in their hands in plane sight where they can’t possibly be overlooked, yet the walk right though.

This was a comedy movie from well before 911 (1980’s I think) and yet so prophetic, it’s incredible.

  10. akuperma, Thanks for pointing it out. You are very right. We live in such a sensationalist society, where anything that could be yelled about gets published as a Himmel Geshrei.
