1:35PM EST: The NYPD has cleared out a portion of Times Square on Friday afternoon after a suspicious package was found.
The package was found at 46th Street and Broadway, just a few blocks from where the smoking SUV and failed car bomb was found Saturday night.
Traffic cameras showed the four lanes along Broadway cleared and the pedestrian plazas empty as investigators worked to test whether the package was hazardous.
Police said they’d received nearly 150 reports of suspicious packages on Thursday alone, which is up from the average of amount of reports for a typical day. Police usually have about 90 reports on a daily basis, but that number has risen since Saturday’s attempted car bombing.
UPDATED 2:45PM EST: A suspicious cooler found on the sidewalk in front of the Marriott Marquis Hotel turned out to have water bottles and books inside it, CBS 2 has learned.
The small cooler was discovered at 46th Street and Broadway shortly after 1 p.m., forcing police to shut down a large portion of the surrounding area.
The area, which was reopened as of 2:18 p.m., is just a few blocks from where the smoking SUV and failed car bomb was found Saturday night.
