The investigation into the attempted Times Square bombing is focused overseas, as authorities try to piece together the money trail that funded the plot.
A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press investigators have the name of someone believed to have funneled cash to finance Faisal Shazad’s failed operation.
They’ve also traveled to Pakistan to question alleged al-Qaida militants.
Shahzad paid for the SUV used in the attempt with 13 $100 bills, had been renting a Connecticut home, and managed to buy a gun, even though he was apparently unemployed since returning from Pakistan in February.
After initially claiming responsibility, members of the Pakistani Taliban said yesterday they had nothing to do with the bomb attempt, but added such attacks are welcome and said Shahzad did a brave job.
Meanwhile, surveillance video has been released that appears to show the 30-year-old buying fireworks used in the attempt from a store in eastern Pennsylvania.
Shahzad is still awaiting arraignment on terrorism and weapons charges.
