The Ulster County Industrial Development Agency has awarded the Town of Marlborough a $10,000 grant to conduct a feasibility study to expand the town’s municipal water services to the Kedem Winery operation. The project would include a two mile long water transmission line for Kedem, which employs over 50 people.
IDA Chairman David O’Halloran said without the needed water source, Kedem could potentially move its operation back to its headquarters in New Jersey.
The winery has plans for a major expansion that would create 75 jobs and result in a more than $5 million investment, said IDA CEO Lance Matteson.
Town Supervisor Christopher Cerone said Kedem is a “valuable business” and the potential expansion of its bottling facility would have a major impact on the town.
The study is underway and expected to be completed by the end of May.
