Labor MK Eitan Cabel, a member of the coalition, lashed out in Knesset on Tuesday in a scathing attack against settlers. The left-wing MK went as far as to say the “the post-Zionist right-wing poses a greater threat than Ahmadinejad and Nasrallah”, referring to the president of Iran and the head of Hizbullah respectfully.

He referred to the residents of yishuvim throughout Yehuda and Shomron as “real-estate Zionists”, implying their only connection to the areas are affordable housing, nothing more. “The greatest threat to Zionism is the continued occupation and settlement” Cabel continued.

The response from the right-wing camp was one of anger, insisting the residents of Yosh communities are continuing in the path of the founding fathers of the Labor Party, the pioneers who settled the land. Settlement Council officials released a statement that by Cabel’s definition, the forefathers of the Labor movement may also be classified as ‘real-estate Zionists’, accusing the radical left-wing of losing its “head and soul”.

MK (Ichud HaLeumi) Prof. Aryeh Eldad added, “All that remains of the leftists is the socialism of Eitan Cabel and hate for settlers.”
