Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Danny Ayalon has left for Washington to meet with administration officials, as well as with Jewish leaders. He is accompanied by Yisrael Beitenu colleague MK Dudu Rotem, and they will also be traveling to New York City.
The two are on a party mission in addition to Ayalon’s ministerial mission, seeking to persuade establishment Jewish leaders that the party’s conversion bill is a safe one, not one that will compromise their standing in the Jewish community.
The representatives of non-frum streams of Judaism fear the law may place too much authority in the hands of the Chief Rabbinate, perhaps more than enjoyed in the past, fearing Conservative and Reform conversions will not be recognized.
