President Barack Obama pressed Wall Street reforms in a “Join me, don’t fight me,” speech to the America financial industry. But a fight is just what he got, immediately, from Mayor Michael Bloomberg, who said some reforms will kill New York.
Mayor Bloomberg spoke in Times Square on Thursday, standing up and telling President Obama he’s right on some things, but dead wrong on others – especially things that could lead to dramatic job losses in New York.
“Limiting the size of financial firms would lead companies to move those jobs overseas,” said Bloomberg. “We need American regulations to be coordinated with international standards or else foreign firms will find it too costly and too difficult to do business here and our jobs will move overseas.
“My concern is for the police officers and firefighters, teachers and sanitation workers, and everyone else who lives in our neighborhoods, shops on our streets, and keeps our cities strong. They get paid by their taxes the financial industry generates.”
For both the President and Mayor Bloomberg, it is a battle for the hearts and minds of the people who live on Main Street.
“The trick is to thread the needle to have reform, make Wall Street stronger, and to employ more people,” said Democratic Sen. Chuck Schumer.
Bloomberg tartly pointed out that President Obama won’t get everything he wants in the reform bill. The mayor hopes he’ll be able to persuade Congress to go a little easier on New York.

Obama was a good president till he stepped on Bloomy’s toes. I believe Mayor Bloomberg has a large portion of his wealth invested on wall street. Lower wall streets earnings, and Bloomy may just not make it to the “Forbes richest billionaires list”

Between bothe of them, who REALY cares for our favor MORE? I guess both have their own intrest, but one is more in our favor, which one is that ?
1, just HOW was he a goods president? What has he done to make your life better since his regime began? From what everyone else has seen, he has lied & continues to lie whenever he moves his lips. He continues to spend money that we don’t have & that there are no signs of having either. He goes around the world apologizing for the US – something UNHEARD of for a leader of a country to do. He hates capitalism & loves Socialism.
He is far along on the road to being the WORST president in history!
