Rothstein’s Sentencing Delayed For 1 Month

The sentencing of convicted Ponzi schemer Scott Rothstein will be pushed back to June 9 because his lawyer has been unable to meet with him regularly while he cooperates with authorities in a separate case against a reputed Italian mafia figure.

Rothstein’s lawyer, Marc Nurik, moved for the postponment of the May 6 sentencing in Fort Lauderdale federal court, saying he had met with his client only twice in the past five weeks. U.S. District Judge James Cohn agreed to a one-month delay.

Rothstein, 47, is being held at an undisclosed location outside South Florida, an unusual situation prompted by his role in an FBI sting targeting a Miami Beach man with ties to the Sicilian mafia. Roberto Settineri was arrested with two others on charges of conspiring to destroy documents and launder money from Rothstein’s $1.2 billion investment scam.
