Senior Israel Police investigators have been in contact with attorneys representing Shula Zaken, the former bureau chief and close confident of Ehud Olmert. The rumors and media leaks surrounding the Holyland investigation point to Zaken as a major player, one who is capable of incriminating the former prime minister and other senior players, as she allegedly was the go-between representing Olmert’s interests in promoting the project.
Persons close to Olmert on the other hand are pointing an accusing finger at Zaken, alleging she may have accepted bribes but the former prime minister is not involved in illegal activities pertaining to Holyland.
While the state does not appear willing to offer Zaken to become a star witness for the prosecution, reports indicate police are willing to reduce charges against her in exchange for quality testimony that will incriminate others in the case. Her attorneys are also seeking a police commitment that she will not be arrested when she returns from the United States next week.
