More European airports are reopening today, as air travel slowly returns to normal, five days after ash from an Icelandic volcano shut down airspace.
The first flights since the shutdown have left Charles de Gaulle Airport in Paris, and Switzerland has reopened its airspace.
European officials yesterday devised a plan to divide the airspace into a no-fly zone, a caution zone, and a clear sky zone. They say it will take several days for regular traffic to resume.
Britain’s airports remain closed.
Millions of travelers were stranded worldwide.
The disruption has cost the aviation industry more than $1 billion.

There are 12 transatlantic flights on the way to the UK as of tuesday evening.
I hear that they will have to be diverted to Newcastle (near Gateshead) in Northern England. If you know of anyone needeing Kosher food or other assisstance please update this forum.
Maybe some bochurim are on these flights and they learn in Gateshead in any case.
