New Jersey rail and bus fares are rising against service cutbacks and continuing budget shortfalls.
Passengers who ride the rails and buses will be paying more next month, and waiting longer for some rides. The people in charge took the vote Wednesday despite weeks of protests which continued right up to the final moment.
The people who ride the big commuter trains are getting hit the worst: a 25 per-cent increase, elimination of off-peak discounts, and elimination of some service. It’s going to hurt.
The original fare hike plan was scaled back some. Light rail and local bus increases are going up “only” 10 percent.
It’s all about more money coming out of your wallet and going into their coffers. For New Jersey Transit Riders it’s a doomsday budget and doomsday comes May 1.
To raise additional money, NJ Transit is also talking about leasing all or some of the 30,000 parking spaces it owns to a private contractor.

Good for you! But think twice, because the person, who will pay more to get to his office, will charge you more for HIS service – he will put this new fare on YOUR sholders. Don’t you think?
