It now appears that two CDs containing over 2,000 classified military documents have gone missing. The documents in question were allegedly taken from the office of the IDF Central District Commander by journalist Anat Kam, when she served in the military as a member of the senior officer’s staff, as was reported last week by YWN-Israel.
According to Shin Bet suspicions, the documents in question were turned over to Haaretz correspondent Uri Blau, who in turn used them for an expose he released on the IDF, as the original report stated.
One of the major failures revealed in the unfolding case, still under a partial press blackout, is the colossal lack of security regarding the classified documents. Kam did not even undergo high-level security clearance, yet it appears she was never questioned as she continued asking for classified material as a clerk in the senior officer‘s office. Kam maintains that the documents were transferred to CDs and then transferred to her computer, now claiming she does not recall what she did with the discs, possibly handing them to Blau, discarding them or leaving them in the IDF office of Major-General Yair Naveh, then serving as the Central District Commander.
In a most forgiving move, former Supreme Court Justice Dalia Dorner, who today stands at the helm of the journalists’ association, has announced a proposed offer which she views as fair, one attacked by many as ‘an obvious attempt to safe the radical left-wing Haaretz and Blau‘.
Dorner proposes that Blau, who is now in London, return all the documents that he received and in return, no charges will be filed against him. Right-wingers call the suggestion beyond the absurd, insisting he knowingly and willingly broke the law and compromised state security and must be held accountable for his actions, as must Kam.
A number of public officials including MKs Dr. Michael Ben-Ari (Kadima) and Yulia Shamakov-Berkovich, sent a letter to Interior Minister Eli Yishai, calling upon him to close Haaretz for permitting the severe security transgression.

Yes I agree close Haaretz. Its an anti Charedi anti Israel rag that has no business being in existence.
I’m sure Haaretz will let the IDF make a copy.
While I generally disagree with everything Ha’aretz writes, I still occaisionally read it to get a better perspective on the truth rather than the equally biased reporting of some of the right-wing fanatics.
