Senator Charles Schumer wants to fix the federal regulation loophole that allows airlines to charge fees for carry-on baggage.
He calls the fee “slap in the face to customers.”
The senator says he made a personal plea to the Treasury Department to rule carry-ons a “necessity” for travel, which would make them exempt from a separate fee.
Last week, Spirit Airlines announced it would charge passengers $45 for any bags that need to be stowed in overhead bins or $30 if flyers pay in advance.
Spirit argued the fees will allow the airline to maintain its low ticket prices.
Their carry-on policy starts in August.

The do-nothing, self-hating Schumer – I can hear Al D’amato’s loud “I told you so”‘s.
