Former Supreme Court Justice Dalia Dorner, today head of the Press Council, came out in strong words against gag orders that prohibit the media from reporting on cases that are reported in the international media, but barred in Israel.
Dorner insists gag orders are an infringement on freedom of the press and when internet sites and foreign media agencies report on cases in detail, gag orders in Israel are baseless and absurd.
Dorner added the Press Council may join an upcoming appeal that surrounds a case preventing the Israeli media from reporting on a case. A previous appeal to lift the gag order was rejected.
