Burglars who broke into the home of IDF Chief of Manpower Major-General Chaggai Tupolinsky are in custody. It was the break-in and theft of a classified military laptop that led to the senior officer submitting his resignation, for not properly securing the laptop. Police report six suspects are in custody.
The suspects in custody are residents of the PA (Palestinian Authority) as well as the eastern capital and Bedouin communities. The classified computer has not been recovered. The suspects were allegedly involved in break-ins in other homes as well. Four of them have been indicted and the other two will be indicted in the coming days.
The IDF’s CID (Criminal Investigation Division) continues probing the incident and it is possible that the former senior officer will face criminal charges for failing to secure the classified laptop as required, or alternatively, it may be decided that the resignation will suffice.
