Kiryat Ata resident Chaim Pinto was sentenced to 11 years in prison for his stabbing of a man in a Shufersal supermarket. Pinto stabbed the man, as seen in the accompanying video, because he thought he was an Arab.
The Haifa District Court sentenced Pinto, who was found guilty of attempted murder and possessing an illegal knife.
According to the indictment, Pinto decided to carry out a revenge attack in October 2015 and headed out with a knife and a hammer, searching for Arabs. He first followed a man he thought to be an Arab who eventually entered a bank. He then entered the supermarket.
Pinto saw 22-year-old Uri Taskin, believing him to be an Arab. Pinto is also required to pay NIS 18,000 in compensation and following his prison term, he will be on probation for 18 months.
