Police Release 3 Suspects in Desecration of Memorial for Terror Victims

Three Meah Shearim residents arrested after being apprehended in the act of desecrating a Jerusalem terror memorial, for victims of an 18 bus suicide bombing attack in 1996, were released earlier Sunday. They were caught red-handed as was reported earlier by YWN-Israel.

The other suspects in custody are being remanded later in the day. According to reports, they are not cooperating with police.

When asked if the rabbonim of the Eida Shlita condemned the act, the response was they did not but they also did not express support. Unofficially, the rabbonim did condemn the actions of the five, but at the time of this report, no public condemnation was heard.

The report of their actions elicited harsh pained responses from family members of those murdered and injured in the attack, questioning how anyone, let alone Jews, are capable of such a heinous act.

  1. Im sorry, that seems a little ridiculous.
They didnt condemn the act, but they didnt support it either???
Obviously, they ddint support it. Their lack or support doesnt necessarily translate in to condemnation. Why bother writing that at all?
It’s best not to say anything about the Eida’s position until you know what it is.
That said, I do not understand why they dont distance themselves from such an act, and condemn the event. unless of course it was a rather isolated incident and decrying the actions of the Neturei karta chilul hashem specialists, will just serve to highlight the chilul hashem that was commited. In that case I understand the silence. However dont try and justify their silence by saying they didnt proclaim support.

  2. The Rabbonim of the “Eida shlita” refuse to publicly condemn these acts of vandalism?? I have no patience with the Secular Israeli Press that viciously defames the “Chareidim”… but: Why do the “Chareidim” have to “give them the sword”?
Just about EVERY “non-chareidi” Jew in Israel (and probably the rest of the world) will feel nothing but anger at the acts of those who actually vandalized the memorial. And, they will feel loathing at Rabbonim who can not seem to publicly condemn such acts.
If there is no peace between the Non-Chareidi and Cahreidi segments, the Non-Chareidi (especially the “secular”) have the “excuse” of not having “Da’as Torah” to guide them. What excuse do the Chareidim have?
Is not such vandalizing behavior a Chillul HaShem of the first magnitude?
And, these Rabbonim can not publicly condemn a Chillul HaShem???!!??
I can almsot promise you that after this incident there will be people who will be PROUD to say that they are “not Chareidi” — is this who HaShem wants His Children who are the [presumed] B’nai Torah to behave??

  3. Please note the following typos (what happens when you type quickly):
    a. “… between the Non-Chareidi and Cahreidi segments…” should be:
    “… between the Non-Chareidi and Chareidi segments…”

    b. “I can almsot promise…” should be:
    “I can almost promise….”

    c. “…is this who HaShem….” should be:
    “… is this how HaShem….”

  4. Again, these people are acting like animals, a light to the nations?, more like monkeys escaped from a zoo…the past few week have proven to me that meah shearim should be fenced in
