Gavaad Bnei Brak HaGaon HaRav Moshe Yehuda Leib Landau Shlita toured the Mekorot Water Authority’s water desalination plant in Palmachim, escorted by Bnei Brak Mayor R’ Yaakov Asher.
On Pesach, Bnei Brak usually closes the main water intake valve connecting to the Kinneret using only the water supply existing in a number of area aquifers. This supply sufficed in the past but do to the closure of a number of these wells for various reasons, the supply would not be adequate this year.
As such, the Rav and mayor visited the Palmachim water desalination operation, where water from the Mediterranean is pumped from a depth of 1,400 meters, then treated and passed along to consumers.
Rav Landau ruled the water passing through the desalination process is suitable for use by area residents on Pesach. Nevertheless, those who wish to be stringent and avoid using water from the fresh supply are advised to arrange for storage tanks at home that will satisfy their needs for drinking and cooking over the yomtov.
A notice is going to be publicized informing the tzibur that the water supply reaching Bnei Brak from the desalination plant is fine for Pesach use. This notice will be signed by Gavaad Landau Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Chaim Kanievsky Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Nissim Karelitz Shlita.

I heard that the ‘problem’ with the water was that it actually wet. I guess they dried it up a bit, somehow.
The headline makes it sound as if people might not have been allowed to drink any water at all during Pesach because water in general, is not “kosher Le’Pesach”, somehow.
actually NOT drinking water on pesach is NOT a CHRUMRAH, but a din, halacha moshe m’sinai. Since the Yidden were running out of Egypt and the Egyptians were drowning in the water, they only drank wine and pesadik beer. Therefore, we are m’chuyav to do the same. It is only the lax k’maat porkai oles who would actually stoop so low as to drink water on Pesach.
BTW, drinking water during the year is a shailah anyway. Although a frum person can wash his horse or give it to his cow to drink. a yeras shamayim person would only drink wine, whiskey or bourbon, durring the year and on Pesach wine and liquor chocolate with the aida charaida’s hechsher, which I happen to sell. contact me to buy it at an oppressive price.
