TRAGIC UPDATE Who Will Take Care Of These Children? The Mother Has Ms, And Their Fathers Health Has Taken Terrible Turn For Worse

Baruch Dayan Emes. R’ Avner Z. passed away this morning, Thursday Feb, 9th (13 Shvat) after his long, painful battle with cancer. His wife Tzila has been incapacitated for years due to her debilitating MS and he had been their primary caretaker. Now their children are alone, without either parent to take care of them. Please help us in this current, critical situation, as we urgently aim to collect funds on behalf of the children who will be dependent on others for the foreseeable future. Without our help what will become of them?

What Will Become of Avner’s and Tzila’s Children?

Just a few weeks ago we reached out to you on behalf of the Z. family of Jerusalem. Tzila, the family’s devoted, loving mother has been deteriorating for years as a result of Multiple Sclerosis and can no longer move or speak. And Reb Avner, the family’s dedicated, hard working father, who stepped in to take complete care of their children, was recently diagnosed with an aggressive form of cancer. The situation was frightening, as the thought of their children losing both parents simultaneously was too much to bear. We reached out to you for help in keeping the family from collapsing, and you answered, generously and quickly. You helped us exceed our financial goal for the Z.’s and we were able to bring some relief to the family. We are so grateful.

Sadly, right now we are forced to reach out to you again. Although we hoped for some good news, as feared Reb Avner’s illness has progressed, and his condition has taken a turn for the worse. The family was able to spend time together this past Motzei Shabbos, but as of yesterday he has been hospitalized in critical condition. There are no new treatments available for him. Reb Avner’s doctors feel he is reaching the end of his life and because it could be a few days or just a few hours, his children and the rest of his family members have been called in to say their goodbyes.

This tragic story is compounded by the fact that if this is indeed the end, Tzila’s and Avner’s children will not be able to remain together. As of now, due to the family’s situation they will be split up among family members, friends and neighbors until they are old enough to get married and live on their own.

We cannot imagine the fear and sorrow these children must be experiencing and we cannot stand by without doing something to help. Their whole world is literally falling apart. So in this emergency situation we must ask for your gracious assistance once more. Please work together with us and help us raise $25,000 which will be used to cover the Z. childrens’ most urgent needs in the next few weeks and months. As one family friend has said, “The responsibility of taking care of them falls onto our shoulders.”

  1. It’s so heartbreaking! How could this be!!
May the אבי יתומים ודיין אלמנות, the אב הרחמן have רחמנות on them. May משיח come really soon and they be united בתחיית המתים.
    I will donate now.

  2. Heartbreaking indeed.
With enough funds to for implementation, there are surely solutions to keep the kids together under one roof. Imagine how much it would add to their sense of security as a family if they stay together with, say, a childless couple moving in to bring them up(the couple must be properly compensated, of course), as well as plenty of household help so that it won’t be too overwhelming for them. For that, $25,000 is not nearly enough! They need a large enough base as principle so that monthly expenses can come out of the interest, and then when the children get married, the principle can be used towards marrying them off. The mother probably has a full-time caregiver during this time that the father a”h was not functional but that also may need funding if it’s not completely covered by government disability stipends. It is up to the generous tzibur to give these children as normal a life as possible under these circumstances.
