The community organizing group Acorn announced Monday that it would close all its remaining state affiliates and field offices by April 1.
The organization is “developing a plan to resolve all outstanding debts, obligations and other issues,” said a statement released by the group.
Acorn has been battered by criticism from the right and has lost federal money and private donations since a video sting was publicized last fall.
In reaction to the videos, the Census Bureau ended its partnership with the organization for this year’s census, the Internal Revenue Service dropped the group from its Voluntary Income Tax Assistance program, and Congress voted to cut off all grants to the organization.
In recent years, the group has also been dogged by mismanagement and criticism — mostly from conservatives — for its handling of voter registration drives.
Last month, the Brooklyn district attorney’s office completed an investigation of the Acorn employees there who appeared in the video and concluded that they had not taken part in any criminality.
“For Acorn as a national organization, our vindication on the facts doesn’t necessarily pay the bills,” Bertha Lewis, the chief executive of Acorn, said in a statement.

Of course the Brooklyn DA decided not to prosecute them; he’s a member of ACORN himself. And unfortunately the local branch of ACORN, which operates under the name Working Families Party, is not going bankrupt. Nor is the Service Employees Industrial Union, which is the same organisation as ACORN. So the mamzerim will still be with us, but safe from their creditors.
“Vindication on the facts”?! Bertha Lewis has some chutzpah to claim that ACORN was in any way vindicated on the facts. The videos are clear evidence that ACORN is a criminal conspiracy.
They are operating in NY under a different name…Worker’s Revolutionary Party or something like it.
SEIU is a union, so get with the program Milhouse. Also, why the Obamacorn logo? is the YWN mechuyav to make an editorial statement that is derisive to the President? would you do it to a white president that was a member of a restricted club?
just change the name as the mafia does all the time.

If you actually paid attention during the elections you would have heard that SEIU is part of Acorn!!!!!! They were founded by the same person & they even share offices in many parts of the country.
You really need to stop worshiping the president based on his color. We don’t care what color he is. He could be green with yellow polka dots & we will still be against his socialist policies & ideas. It is the socialist democrat party that is the one to always bring up race when they are the ones most guilty.
Obama & Acorn are tied at the hip. One of the few jobs he had in life was as the community agitator & lawyer for Acorn. The logos are similar for a good reason.
You & people on the left were so bowled over by Obama & his teleprompter that you failed miserably to actually LISTEN to what he was saying & how he was saying it. Now we have the socialist democrat party in charge & we are going in the direction of those miserable EU countries.
BH the election of 2010 is coming up & we could make a big dent in this socialist path we are under. 2012 comes up after that and by that time we should really know what was in the bill. We should also see the VAT tax of about 20% instituted, which means EVERYTHING goes up 20%, in order to pay for this disaster.

Mark it would have been quite impressive for the founder of ACORN, to found the SEIU, considering that it was started in 1921 and he wasn’t born until 1948, but by all means continue enlightening us on what it means to not know what you’re talking about.

ACORN was founded by a Massachusetts community organizer named Wade Rathke in 1970 (who also runs a chapter of SEIU), he started in the state of Arkansas, because Boston did not have enough welfare dependents, and Arkansas did. ACORN is now based in New Orleans, and works through hundreds of front organizations to do its work and collect tens of millions of dollars from dues and government stipends yearly. Rathke started as a community organizer applying the techniques of avowed radical Saul Alinsky in a group called National Welfare Rights Organization, and built ACORN to large size, until he was forced out this year due to financial scandals.

This is just not true (and judging from your response you know that, but still called me a liar. Where was the Sheker in what I said?), as Wade Rathke wasn’t alive when the SEIU was founded. Your response doesn’t actually say anything about the SEIU (or defend your original absurd, claim) beyond that Rathke runs (actually he founded, as well) a local, it just talks more about ACORN. I guess since your reply doesn’t say anything demonstrably false, I should be grateful.
By the way, I’m a complete stranger to you and you have no idea what I do for a living (hint: it almost literally couldnt be more the opposite of being part of a “thuggish union”). But if only union members care about saying things that pass a basic test of truthfulness, I will gladly sign up.
I was a former member of SEIU and I can speak from experience the they are a thuggish union. They only care about the union due and not at all about the union members. Every word out of their mouths are lies and scare tactics geared toward confusing its members to stay loyal to them. I have personally seen them become verbally and physically abusive to their members on many occasions because the member new the truth and was educating their coworkers.
