Some feel that every cloud has a silver lining, explaining the fact that the diplomatic row is still going on between Jerusalem and Washington resulted in little media coverage over the passage this week of the Civil Marriage Law, which in essence changed the status quo regarding the Rabbanut’s total control over marriage in Israel.
If Israel would not find herself in the midst of a major fallout with the United States, her strongest ally, undoubtedly the media would have had a field day with the passing of the law, which most interpret as a major blow to the chareidi parties and the Chief Rabbinate despite the fact the law was amended and did not contain the giyur issue too as was requested by Rishon L’Tzion HaGaon HaRav Shlomo Amar Shlita. Changing his original position, the Rav expressed his opposition to the bill, which nevertheless was passed into law.
The Yisrael Beitenu success was a major victory for the secularists they claim, and in actuality, little media coverage was given to the significant event due to the press’ preoccupation with the Jerusalem construction issues.

Why is this a good thing??
Just because it escaped attention does not detract from the fact that the new law is a negative.
RASHI, Rosh Mefarshei Torah HaKedoshah, who had Ruach HaKodesh, anticipated this crisis and other similar crises, when he explained [on Bereishis 1:1] that the purpose of the account of Maasei Breishis as well as the entire Sefer Breishis is to teach us that Eretz Yisrael is ours: “Koach Maasav Higid LeAmo Laseis Lahem Nachlas Goyim.”
My Rebbe, HaRav Aharon Soloveichik ZT”L, added: This is a lesson for us, because the Goyim will never accept this fact and will always try to convince us otherwise!
If only the umos haolam would learn chumash and rashi
This bill ay not be as bad as all the balagan. First, it only applies to non-Jews.c Chilonim who do not wish to marry under the auspices of the rabbinut will still have to do so out of the country.
Second, the term “civil marriage” is an oxymoron. Marriage is a religious ceremony, and thus is defined by each religion according to their own dogma. Whatever you want to call it, e.g. union, contract, cpmmitment, a civil ceremony is definitely NOT a marriage according to any religious definition.
