Senior Hamas Terrorist Released from Israeli Prison

Salah Aruri, a senior Hamas leader in Yehuda and Shomron, a founding member of the al-Aqsa Brigade, was released from an Israeli prison on Wednesday afternoon serving 18 years in administrative detention. The release of the master terrorist was reported on Channel 2 News, confirmed by sources in Ramallah.

Aruri, in his 40s, was arrested in 1992 near his home in the Ramallah area. He was released due to High Court of Justice intervention, ordering an arrangement to permit his release.

While he is in an autonomous area today, according to the agreement reached with between Aruri and ISA (Israel Security Agency – Shin Bet) Director Yuval Diskin, he is expected to leave for Jordan, exiled for three years. A Yisrael HaYom report indicates an agreement was reached with Jordan to accept him, leading to the release agreement.

Some PA sources report the release of such a senior individual signals behind-the-scenes progress towards a deal to bring Gilad Shalit home.

The question is, how much more suffering must we go through, before that happens?
