Israel Police about a half year ago it was seeking to replace 15,000 handguns used by members of the force. A deal was signed with Glock and hundreds of weapons have already been purchased.

A police spokesman reports that in the course of the coming year it plans to begin distributing the new lighter weapon, which will be replacing the Israeli manufactured Yericho. Officials report the Glock weighs just 1.8kg including a magazine carrying 15 rounds. Cadets entering the force in the coming months will begin their careers with the new Glock 19 fourth generation weapon.
