Portions of Highway 1, the Jerusalem-Tel Aviv Highway will shut down beginning Thursday night the eve of 22 Teves from 10:00PM until Friday morning at 10:00AM to permit opening the new Harel Tunnel.
At 10:00PM Thursday night, the highway will close from Shar HaGai to Sakharov in the direction of Jerusalem and from Sakharov to Chemed Interchange in the direction of Tel Aviv.
This means that vehicles on Route 3 will be blocked at Latrun to Highway 1 towards the capital. From Route 38 (Beit Shemesh) the highway will be blocked from Shar HaGai towards Jerusalem and on Route 3955, the highway will be closed from Shoresh Interchange towards Jerusalem.
- Those traveling on Route 1 may reroute to 443, the Jerusalem-Modi’in Highway towards the capital.
- Motorists on Rt. 431 are advised to travel via Modi’in and on to 443 to the capital.
- Persons on Rt. 3 towards Jerusalem should travel via Modi’in to 443.
- Persons coming from Beit Shemesh (Rt. 38), are advised to use 395 from Kikar Eshtaol via Ramat Raziel to Ein Kerem or via 375 (Netiv HaLamed Hey) Tzur Hadassah to Jerusalem.
Waze should be updated showing the roadway closures as per the schedule above.

Since we don’t have a hospital or even a birthing clinic in Beit Shemesh, I suggest that prospective patients hold off giving birth or needing any sort of care, because the traffic will be a nightmare going towards HEK.
