Suspects in Burglary in Rav Shteinman’s Shlita Home Sent to House Arrest

Five suspects in the burglary of the home of Maran HaRosh Yeshiva HaGaon HaRav Aaron Leib Shteinman Shlita are being released on Tuesday, to house arrest. It appears that while police believe these are the suspects responsible for the theft that netted them over NIS 2 million in tzedaka funds, they lack the hard evidence necessary to move ahead with an indictment at this time.

Nevertheless, at least two of the suspects appear tied to a recent acquisition of a sizable amount of money, renting a car from Avis in the Modi’in area, a Cadillac.

Police are continuing to investigate the case, seeking to amass sufficient evidence to move ahead with indictments.

  1. The police clearly do not have enough hard evidence to procced against these guys. This whole story is like a piece of Swiss chesse: holes everywhere. The version that no one in Rav Steinman’s inner circle was involved is one that sits nicely with the Haredi community but it leaves too many questions unanswered. “Involved” does not mean was part of the robbery team; it could mean recklessly passed on information about where the money was, for example.
