[PHOTO LINK BELOW] Saturday’s storm left behind a mess of downed power lines and trees in New York City.
Falling trees did such a number on power lines that the sparks were flying everywhere during the storm.
On 104th Street it looked like a war zone, with more than half a dozen utility poles down from the high wind that rocked all 5 boroughs.
Crews have been busy trying to repair the power lines, but it’s going to take time.
Tens of thousands of people lost power in the five boroughs. As of 8:00 a.m., 32,000 on Staten Island were without power, and a total of 34,000 in Brooklyn, Queens and the Bronx did not have power.
Winds remain strong and further tree damage and outages are possible, Con Edison said.
Con Edison has additional customer service representatives, electrical and construction crews, along with tree-clearing crews working to respond to customers and power outages that may occur.
During the height of the storm, anyone trying to get through Brooklyn or to Staten Island had their work cut out for them on Motzei Shabbos.
The Belt Parkway was shut down in both directions near Bay Parkway.
In Staten Island, the power lines were also smoking with huge trees shaking the homes that were right nearby.
In the Bronx, buildings lost their facades and awnings went flying.
The weather was downright dangerous at times, with the city’s 911 system becoming overwhelmed.
MTA reported some problems because of the weather.
Number 3 train service was suspended between the Harlem-148th Street Station and 96th Street due to flooding.
Debris on the tracks caused some problems on the Q line, but those issues were resolved early Sunday morning.
